The 2010 U.S. Open will be played at Pebble Beach, which I hear is kind of a nice place for golf. And once again, Golf Digest is offering you -- yes, you, Joe or Jane Average Golfer -- a chance to play the course at its championship distance, along with some celebs and NBC cameras.
Nervous yet?
The contest was inspired by Tiger Woods' 2007 declaration that a 10-handicapper couldn't break 100 at Oakmont, site of that year's Open. Earlier this year, Ben Roethlisberger, Justin Timberlake and Michael Jordan played Bethpage with an everyday fella named Larry Giebelhausen. (Roethlisberger won.)
Ah, but they're not letting just anybody play. No, you've got to win their contest -- explain in 60 words or less why you deserve to get the coveted fourth spot. (Giebelhausen's winning entry last year: "I'm a cop, I'll shoot low.")
Suggested topics to pursue: a round with your father, introducing your child to the game, recovering from illness, reunion with long-lost relatives, maybe even all at once. Suggested topics to avoid: your irritable bowel syndrome, "golf isn't really a sport," your tendency to use the ol' foot wedge now and then.
So have at it, folks -- go to the official site to sign up, and why not give us a sample of your literary prowess right here in the comments section?

my 6 word gem:
"I am woman, hear my fore"
Now I must add that the judges must have been a bunch of dimwits.
