This week marks the end of the LPGA season at the ADT Championship, which also means that it's the end of the line for one of golf's greats. Annika Sorenstam is bringing her stellar, 72-win, 10-major career to a close this year, and the ADT will be her final LPGA appearance. She has two more tournaments scheduled in Singapore and Dubai, and then that'll be it.
I'm not sure what the hell she's doing in that photo there, a promo for the ADT, but whatever. We wish Annika the best in her new ventures -- starting a family, running a business, gardening, whatever strikes her fancy.
In commenting on her retirement, Sorenstam gave perhaps her greatest gift -- a ready-made excuse for slackers worldwide: "I was so motivated with short-term goals and long-term goals and winning majors. That was driving me. Then all of a sudden, I felt like I achieved what I wanted to. The motivation was not there anymore." See, boss, I had these goals, but then all of a sudden, I felt like I achieved what I wanted to ...
Anyway, enough of that silliness. Best of luck to you, Annika, and congrats on a singular career in golf.
