Devil Ball Golf - Golf

We passed the "Any questions?" stage of Tiger's career long ago. You seriously cannot legitimately bet against him in any tournament at any time. Now, we're into the "How many?" stage -- as in, "How many otherwise great golfers will he obliterate?"

Add Anthony Kim and Hunter Mahan to the list of Sunday challengers brought low by the man in the red shirt. Sunday at the AT&T National, Woods dusted Kim in a hurry -- Kim surrendered four shots to Woods in the first nine holes and never appeared to be a serious threat. Further up the pairings list, however, Hunter Mahan was mounting a one-man charge of his own, firing a 62 to match the course record set just three days ago by Kim. Woods then had an hour on the course to look sideways at co-leader Mahan, but ruthlessly and efficiently put himself ahead with a long birdie at 16, then parred out to take the tournament by a single stroke.

It was a characteristic win. Woods is far more of a bend-but-don't-break player these days; he hasn't seemed as untouchable as when he put up double-digit stroke leads on the field. But in a way, that makes him even more dangerous; he now gives his opponents confidence before snuffing out their hopes. He may not have the torque that he had on his knee pre-surgery, but he's still got his competitive edge and he's got a psychological arsenal second to none.

On the same day that Roger Federer played one of his most classic tennis matches, Tiger simply put on a clinic, demonstrating why he's the standard for not just all golfers, but all athletes, period.

Enjoy this run, folks. You'll be telling your grandkids about seeing Tiger play.

Seriously though, Tiger is coming back nicely, and I see him with about 5 wins this year, one of them a major, and player of the year. Not bad for playing less than a full year.

    So a few questions:
How many majors will he win?
How many tournaments will he win total on the PGA tour?
I say he gets 20-22 majors and 90-95 wins.

I watched the tennis match today and wish the PGA players would challenge Tiger the way Roddick did Federer. At least show some desire instead of flopping around like a dead fish like Kim did today. I'm sure they are trying but there is such a gap between Tiger and them. I think he will retire with about 22 majors and 85 wins.

Certainly Tigerman had no real cause to exert himself in this field bur I really don't see how Hunter Mahan was brought low by the man you and your kind obviously worship. Mahan started at #16 on the leaderboard, tied a course record with a 62. Five birds on the back nine !! Passed everyone else in the field & left Tiger to wait for the 16th hole (an easy bird) which almost escaped and then carefully par out 17 & 18 .
KIm the so-called future of golf coughed it up head to head within 9 holes but please don't put that one in the same category as Mahan . Like maybe just try and give some credit to someone other than your hero for shooting a hell of a round of golf !!!!!!!!

@ #9------Hell of a stupid comment. Mahan stayed out of courtesy . Suppose he does F O ? and a playoff is required !! I just don't think the Tigerman, the PGA, or the spectators would have been too happy. Try removing your head from your arsehole at least occasionally so you might have some idea of golf decorum !!!!!!!!!

Yes Mahan shot a nice ROUND but lost the tourney. Tiger is the best because he plays consistently better than the field and has the skills along with the mental ability to win. Great round by Mahan but just short after 72 holes.

I was glued to the TV for the entire 4th round. Tiger rules the game like no other...68 wins and counting.

Kelly G, I see that you and I have similar views of how many career wins Tiger will get. I think he certainly passes Nicklaus' 73 next year, and even only figuring 5 per year, that leaves only about three-four years before he passes Snead's 82 for the most all time. Three to four years also before he gets majors 18 and 19. Should be a fun little run to watch.
Here's the list of all time wins: (* denotes active players)
Career Wins on the PGA Tour
    Sam Snead - 82
    Jack Nicklaus - 73
    *Tiger Woods - 68
    Ben Hogan - 64
    Arnold Palmer - 62
    Byron Nelson - 52
    Billy Casper - 51
    Walter Hagen - 44
    Cary Middlecoff - 40
    Gene Sarazen - 39
    Tom Watson - 39
    *Phil Mickelson - 36
    Lloyd Mangrum - 36
    *Vijay Singh - 34
    Horton Smith - 32
    Harry Cooper - 31
    Jimmy Demaret - 31
    Leo Diegel - 30
    Gene Littler - 29
    Paul Runyan - 29
    Lee Trevino - 29
    Henry Picard - 26
    Tommy Armour - 25
    Johnny Miller - 25
    Gary Player - 24
It's interesting the Phil and Vijay are currently 12th and 14th on the all time list. I think that Vijay will end up with 40, tying him for 9th all time, and Phil could go as high as beating Byron Nelson's 52, putting him 6th all time. An era of golf with three of the top ten all time players in it? Maybe. And Tiger dominated it.

Why golf is even considered a sport is beyond me. Fugly Woods, Fugly Woods, that's all every friggin media wants to mention. He hurts my eyes. Golfers are such nancies that the gallery needs to be quiet before these so-called athletes hit the ball. Tell that to baseball fans. Even minor tournaments like this gets covered because friggin Ugly Woods is playing. Uggh.

Hey celticspride22, I think that 100 wins might be too much for even Tiger, but once he gets major #19 in about four years, he should only be about 10-15 wins from that. That may become his next goal. If it does, you may be right.
