A time to be thankful

Thanksgiving is upon us again and it's time to give thanks for our blessings. Here goes.

I am thankful I'm not John Daly's liver. (Sure he shot a 62 the other day in Hong Kong. Yippee. Nothing more inspiring than a drunk with a reason to celebrate.)

I'm thankful I'm not Tiger Woods. Poor #$%^&*. First it's the knee. Now he loses his reported $7 million-a-year deal with Buick, which also announced, on a much more positive note, that in October it nearly sold a car. (The CEO of General Motors broke the news to Woods in person, flying to Florida and parking his extravagant $90 million corporate jet near Orlando. Specifically, in Woods' living room.)

I'm thankful I'm not 14-year-old Jason Hak, who became the youngest player to make the cut at a European Tour event last week when he shot back-to-back rounds of 70. Poor kid. When I was 14 I was going to friends' birthday parties, playing games like Pin the Tail on the Donkey until the donkey kicked Billy in the back of the head. (Footnote: Billy is now a writer, just like like mea… meuh… mei… us.) I'm afraid Jason is going to miss out on a normal childhood like that.

I'm thankful I'm not the guy who got Ian Poulter ticked off by stealing his driver. Frankly, if I wanted to be chased down the street by a displeased and huffy guy with dyed blonde hair, lemon chiffon trousers and the matching shirt and shoes, I'd heckle Elton John.

But mostly – as we celebrate that day in Plymouth when Myles Standish pushed himself away from the table and proclaimed the bald eagle to be "less gamey" than the spotted owl – I'm thankful I wasn't Annika Sorenstam's caddy last week when the sensational Swede was given a drug test specimen container and told to fill it up.

As I understand it, she handed the cup to her startled caddy and said, "Fjard laisk borga-fjorsk," which means, more or less, "Help me line this one up."

digg delicious

Wow, it's so refreshing to read new John Daly jokes. I hope John pays no attention to idiots in the media like you who do nothing but attempt to spice up your off season golf article with recycled jokes about a talented if flawed individual. John may have a problem, but he has more talent at what he does in his little finger than you could ever hope to have as a writer.

I'm not sure, but I think Rich just won the Grand Slam, either that or he has a bad case of indigestion ... early.

How can you say poor Tiger. the guy has more money then he know's what to do with, wakes up next to a naked super model every morning and is still the #1 golfer in the world. I wish I had those types of troubles. As for the rest of those mentioned, I don't want their troubles.

Very short sighted and disrespectful article. I'm dissappointed you ripped Daly.
Perhaps you should think of a job selling ladies shoes at Nordstrom.

What a sarcastic, acidic column........you have reached lows I didn't think possible even for you. I suspect you gloat over the comments sections, because you think everyone is a reader and hangs on your every word.
Well guess again,,,,,,,,,, the world is full of this kind of crap.........why don't you look for some good in people and promote that rather than the vomit you spew in all your columns.

Seeing how it's Thanksgiving, I suppose we should be thankful for some things, It's nice to hear that the prize money in tournaments is still climbing, although it's probably taxpayer bailout money that's footing the bill, so if you can't afford xmas this year it should make you all warm and fuzzy inside that you are giving morons like Bo Weekly more money especially when he will be spending it on etiqette school. As for JD I feel sad for him on Thanksgiving, unless he gets real help things will only get worse and dispite the mess he's making of his life most of us hope he can turn it around. As for Tiger, he's why we watch and play golf because when we are out there we all imagine we can make one of those shots just once which will make us all come back and play again. Happy Thanksgiving to wanabee golfers everywhere.

Watching John Daley Explode is not fun along with watching these pros eat up short courses and walking away with big dollars. Take the short irons away from these guys and lets see more long irons and wood shots into the green like real golf is played everyday by us regular folk.

I think John Daly is great. So what if he trashed a persons camera, I would have done the same thing, and by the way I think he is sexy and hot.
