On the Hoof: Dorsey has an athletic build as a defensive tackle but is not overwhelming from a physical standpoint. He is in the 6-1/6-2 range as far as height but does have good length in his arms. Likely won't ever develop into a massive space eater. His tweener size should allow him to move around and line up in several defensive line positions.
Needs improvement: Dorsey has less than ideal size for an interior defender. He must maintain an elite level of athleticism and a high intensity level in college to demand the double-teams that bigger defenders warrant.
Most impressive: Dorsey is ultra-athletic. He is quick off of the snap and explosive at the point of attack. He has strong hands and arms, extends them well when engaged and is able to react to the ball carrier. He can redirect quickly and moves with a purpose. With a high motor and quick feet, Dorsey is very difficult to block in the pass game and at the high school level, his strength and explosiveness makes him very disruptive in the run game as well.
Conclusion: Despite his size limitations, Dorsey's athleticism could lead to him contributing very early on the college level. He has some qualities in his game that you can’t teach, such as effort and instincts and he plays physical enough to mix it up with college offensive linemen. Much like Jacobbi McDaniel has contributed early at Florida State, Dorsey could have a similar impact at Texas.

The Texas coaches said during the spring season that the battle for spots on the D-tackle depth chart will carry over to fall camp, and incoming freshman Ashton Dorsey is one of the players hoping to contribute. Dorsey's putting in some work over the off-season to prepare himself, but he does still have one hurdle to cross before heading to Austin.
