Scouting Report on Matt Simpkins

by Jerry Meyer - 08/28/2006
A live body who has only been playing basketball since the eighth grade, Matt Simpkins appears to be coming into his own as a prospect. He plays above the rim and runs the court well. Still raw with his ball skills, Simpkins is capable of attacking the basket with the dribble and scoring in the post with a jump hook. His shooting mechanics do need work, but his overwhelming potential is quite evident.

Jerry Meyer serves as a national scout and recruiting analyst for He played at Lipscomb University where be became college basketball's all-time career assist leader. Meyer earned Mr. Basketball honors in the state of Tennessee as a high school junior and senior. He has served as an assistant coach at Vanderbilt and also co-authored the book, "Basketball Skills and Drills."
