Next Match: at home to Athletic Bilbao, January 21 Real Betis manager Pepe Mel believes Ruben Castro's form means he deserves to be in the reckoning for a call-up to the Spanish national team. Castro is the joint highest scoring Spaniard in the league with 11 goals in 18 games and Vicente del Bosque is set to cast an eye over the former Las Palmas man as Betis take on Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey on Thursday evening. Mel told the club's website: "He is a very special footballer. He plays in any position you put him. He makes goals and he doesn't take penalties. He is 31 and if he was five years younger he would be a star. He is exceptional and it isn't strange to us that Del Bosque will be in the stand tomorrow at the Vicente Calderon. There are many players between Atletico and Betis that could play for the national team." |
