Next Match: away to Valencia, January 02

Espanyol ended a dreadful five-match losing streak before the winter break with a much-needed 2-0 win at home to Almeria. That win lifted the Barcelona-based side four points clear of the relegation zone ahead of Saturday night's tough trip to fourth-placed Valencia. Lola Smiljanic looks set to miss that match through injury, along with Raul Tamudo, Fernando Marques, David Garcia and Ivan De La Pena. Ben Sahar is also doubtful. Jose Callejon will start up front for Espanyol on Saturday, and the striker hopes he can find some scoring form in 2010. "I hope 2010 brings more goals," he said.
