Next Match: away to Valencia, May 18

Atletico Madrid's rather inconsistent season is drawing to a happy conclusion after Javier Aguirre's side secured a place in the Champions League last weekend. Atletico's narrow win over Deportivo La Coruna their third consecutive success saw the club move level on points with third-placed Barcelona and although Aguirre's side still sits just three ahead of Sevilla, the team has guaranteed a top-four finish thanks to a superior head-to-head record in the two matches played against the Andalusians. Having achieved the target set by his employers for the season, Aguirre now looks set to stay at the club. "That would be good news for everyone," Maxi Rodriguez said. Maxi, Jose Antonio Reyes and Luis Amaranto Perea are all doubtful for Sunday's game, but Sergio Aguero should shake off a bout of flu in time for the trip to Valencia. Thiago Motta remains sidelined, though, and Ignacio Camacho is suspended.
