Next Match: at home to Espanyol, November 29 Europe: UEFA Champions League (Group D) Former Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores was recently brought in to replace the deposed Abel Resino after Atletico Madrid got off to a dreadful start to the season. But the new man has yet to inspire a revival, losing his first league three matches in charge. Narrow defeats against Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna have left Atletico in the bottom three ahead of Sunday's key clash at home to Espanyol. Atletico tied 1-1 away to Apoel Nicosia in the Champions League on Wednesday night and, having failed to qualify for the last 16, will hope to finish third in the group to pass to the Europa League. Raul Garcia is sidelined for two weeks and will miss the game against Espanyol, while Cleber Santana is suspended. |
