Already-relegated Cologne ended a disappointing season on a positive note by crushing 13th-placed Arminia Bielefeld 4-2. Lukas Podolski grabbed a brace and put his personal tally to 12. Even though Cologne officials would deny a transfer, it is expected that Bayern Munich will buy the striking sensation out of his contract this summer. "He does not belong in the second division," Munich president Franz Beckenbauer said. The transfer fee should not be a problem. "I could almost pay it myself," added the Kaiser with a smile. Almost 50,000 fans celebrated the win over Bielefeld in fashion, with Mainz target Markus Feulner admitting that "it did not really feel like being relegated". After a brilliant start into the season, newly-appointed coach Uwe Rapolder slid all the way to the bottom of the table and was given the chop just before Christmas. His Swiss successor, popular Hanspeter Latour, won the hearts of the fans but failed to turn an ill-fated outfit around. |
