Next Match: away to VfL Bochum, November 07

Freiburg's 1-0 defeat to Hoffenheim last weekend was overshadowed by the death of the club's long-standing president Achim Stocker. Stocker was the Bundesliga's longest-serving president, having led the club from the Black Forest for the last 37 years. Only a few weeks ago, he admitted he only rarely visited the club's home games for fear of suffering a heart attack. "The emotion is too much for me, I don't know if my heart could cope with it," he said. And the 74-year-old died from the after-effects of a heart attack he suffered last Wednesday, passing away only moments before Freiburg took to the field yesterday. "Achim Stocker gifted us his heart and he will therefore always remain in our hearts," said the club via a press release post-match. A minute's silence will be observed before Saturday's game with Bochum.
