Start Jonathan Baldwin Against Miami Dolphins: Fantasy Football Report

It's time for fantasy football owners to pick up Kansas City Chiefs wide receivers Jonathan Baldwin(notes) for the rest of the regular season. During the Monday night game against the San Diego Chargers, Baldwin proved that he deserves more playing time from the Chiefs, and that is certainly going to take place in the coming weeks.

Getting his first chance to see some real action on the field, Baldwin caught a key touchdown pass that helped the Chiefs beat the Chargers 23-20 on Oct. 31. He ended up becoming the leading receiver for the team, catching five passes for 82 yards and that touchdown. Dwayne Bowe(notes) had four catches for 62 yards, and Dexter McCluster(notes) had three catches for 28 yards. It was good enough to lead the Chiefs to the win, and quarterback Matt Cassel(notes) pushed the team to a 4-3 record and a tie for first place in the AFC West.

The Cassel to Baldwin connection could increase this week against the Miami Dolphins, and it presents a brand new option for fantasy football owners that need a new wide receivers. There are four teams with byes this week that could affect leagues, and the teams with the week off are the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers, and Jacksonville Jaguars. There are a few receivers in that group of teams that will need to get replaced for a week, and Baldwin is a great guy to pick up.

Many owners lost track of Baldwin because he missed the first five games of the season due to a broken bone in his hand. That set him back on the training as well, but it seems clear that he is ready to take the field for the two-receiver sets that the Chiefs run. That will give him the opportunity to rack up a few yards this season, and certainly makes Cassel more valuable as a fantasy quarterback as well. Baldwin is a rookie, so he is still getting his feet wet in the NFL, but he has all the tools necessary to become a fantasy stud.

Baldwin was a first round pick out of Pittsburgh, and could be a very important player to grab off the waiver wire in your fantasy leagues. Flush with opportunities during the second half of the season, and with the Dolphins up next on the schedule, he could have a 100-yard game in Week 9.
