Big Board: Baseball

Big Boards: Football | Baseball | Basketball | Hockey

The Big Board takes into consideration past returns, current performance and expected future gains in determining who should be included among the top 50 fantasy baseball players. Essentially, the Big Board is a cheat sheet designed for a fantasy owner who is planning to participate in a draft today. Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball default scoring settings are used as the baseline for the Big Board, which is updated on a regular basis.

World Series ended already. Not even an update now after the WS is finished? Wow...

I guess he's skipped the following Big Boards/

End of August (for the playoffs)
    End of Regular Season

I'd expect at least the "after World Series" Big Board, but the way things have gone......

What an embarrassment that this once serviceable fantasy column was completely abandoned at the most critical point in the fantasy season. If the obligation of doing your job isn't enticing enough then maybe consider that people enjoyed and were reliant on it for information. I'm switching to CBS Sportsline where at least I will be reassured that updated, relevant fantasy advice will be provided. Yahoo hand the Big Board over to someone will use it to its fullest potential, rather than continue this joke.

jimm120 put it amazingly. Funston, I think this is enough. Hand it over to someone who will actually update the board for us.

I was going to write a note about posting frequency but Jimm120 said it much better than I. I agree with his entire assessment and think something needs to be done. The lack of frequency has made this popular tool rather useless and undependable.

This BB is simply a wast of space and useless. You'd think people in keeper leagues might want a little help or guidence. i guess it onto football season BB, and all i can say is FUMBLE.
You guy's truely droped the ball.

I gotta say, the Big Board is becoming a sham. With weekly updates, people weren't getting tired of it (at least, I wasn't).

I can understand spacing out updates, so not to saturate it, but c'mon, 5 updates during the season!?! 1 in August, 1 in July, 2 in June, 1 in May. Those are the only ones I remember. There was, I think, also one in February too. C'mon, that just isn't enough.

As someone said, if you, Funston, can't do it on a monthly basis, at least, then hand it down to Evans or someone else to do. You like football a lot more, obviously. So, stick to football and another sport's Big Board. You've already done this with Hockey. Well, do it with another sport too. Keep 2 for yourself and update them frequently enough and the other two for two others writers that need it.

No update since August 9th is just bad. People needed an update for the playoffs. In September, people needed an update for keepers (but still "in-season"). In October, we need an update to reflect the Regular Season. And in November, right after the World Series, we need an update looking towards the following season. After that, you can take a break until late December (as close to December 25th as possible) before an update.

What I'm trying to get at is that there needs to be at least 2 updates (pref. 3) per month during the season and at least 1 update during the offseason. So, April through September, we get 12 updates. Then we get 1 update a month in the offseason to follow the playoffs, follow free agency , follow winter ball, and follow Spring Preseason stuff. That is 18 updates in a whole year. VERY little. Yet you give us maybe 7 or so this whole year (starting from last December 2008 to October 2009). 18 isn't a lot, considering this was done on a weekly basis and then on a biweekly basis for years.

And if the reason for the sparse updates is because of you don't want to saturate the Big Board, well, I'll just say that instead, you're stagnating it. Even when it releases, I'm not that excited over it anymore, because I feel it skipped so many things.

So please, do more frequent updates or hand it over to someone else to do.

Lie a deadbeat in my league - last activity August 9th

ha! Why even bother having a Big Board then?

Just kill it off. Cheap websites with nonpaying contributors have more passion than this shlub

I came back to have one last look for an updated board. Jesus. I'm surprised Reggie Jackson isn't listed on this board. Nice work.

I felt a tiny bit of guilt for switching to ESPN for football season. The people who I do my (non-sports) website with all made the switch after I told them how much better it is. Hockey, football and, next season, baseball after years on yahoo. Stuff like this erases any guilt or nostalgia. Others must be leaving in droves as well. It's surprising a company as big as yahoo is cool with actively driving away customers from a billion dollar fantasy industry when they had positioned themselves as a leader, but I guess they are.
