  • I co-commission a 12-team H2H keeper league with a friend, and a trade just went through as follows:

Team A trades Michael Conforto and Mike Moustakas this year, and a 2016 6th round draft pick and 15th round keeper Carlos Martinez at the beginning of next year to Team B.

Team B trades Freddie Freeman and Mark Buerhle this year, and a 2016 23rd round draft pick to Team A.

What are your thoughts of promising to trade Martinez at a future date, but Team A keeping Martinez on his team for the rest of this year (to make a playoff run)? Yahoo does not allow this, and as commissioners, we aren't taking responsibility to enforce this. Do you think this is a fair practice, should players be able to promise a player at a future date, and should agreements be honored that can't be processed through Yahoo's system?

2 Angry Commissioners Put their league on blast!

    by ryan b Aug 1, 2015 3:48 PM

LOL, well, the first two things that came to my mind watching this....meth & rednecks, bad combination. Look, if ANY commissioner cannot control HIMSELF, he certainly IMO has no business running a league. I'm not looking for thanks and I certainly don't have an ego that requires respect...so despite what Beavis & Butthead have to say...I disagree!

  • Are you a commissioner? Have you ever been angry at your league or its managers? have you ever been so mad that you went on a rant. Being a commish is a thankless job and we get little respect for the amount of work we put into making our leagues awesome. here is a video of 2 commissioners angry at their leagues, a battle cry for commissioners everywhere

Well, the Hamels trade wasn't official until about 1PM, but since then he should have been designated AL if your in an AL-only league. All the teams I have him he's listed as Tex, so they have that right.

  • Why are most of the other players that have recently been traded to the American League show up as a free agent except for Cole Hamels? I dont understand why it takes so long for Yahoo to insert him as a American League player.

Veto Voting Issue- 1/3 don't cut it

    by Nathan Jul 31, 2015 11:40 AM

Well first, I'm not questioning your integrity Ron, but I'm totally against commish approval....and I consider myself an honest & fair commish and i'm sure all my members would agree...the thing is you are correct that ALL managers evaluate/study proposed trades in different ways, their own opinions...which is exactly why I'm opposed to commish approval. I'd much rather rely on the opinion of several, than of one. Now, maybe I'm jaded because I've been commish of leagues since 2005, and several of my members have been in since then. We kinda know each other even tho we've never met. What I'm getting at is if you have a good league, with good members, you trust their judgements. If 1 or 2 or 3 reject a trade based on a bias, i cant do anything about that...as long as its NOT SIX in a 16 team league, I don't have a problem and the trade goes through.

Veto Voting Issue- 1/3 don't cut it

    by Nathan Jul 31, 2015 11:40 AM

some managers play games with vetoes. I run 8 leagues and have only vetoes two trades in 4 years. only I decide which trades are vetoed and I have never had a complaint. two seasons ago in a league I did not run one manager admitted to our league that he voted down a fair trade between another manager and myself because it would make my 3rd place team stronger. it took one veto to kill a trade in this league and what he did cost me the championship.

Nice job. So many owners automatically veto trades that they perceive make strong teams stronger and will also veto trades if they perceive an imbalance, like a batter ranked 70 or so vs. an RP ranked 120 or so.

The problem with owners voting is as old as fantasy. Some if not many, will vote not for the trade itself but as a defense against how it affects their team in the standing. 1/3rd is assinine. Player value is subjective to each and every owner. Often, an owner will vote against a deal for a player that they had opportunity to make but was lowballing the guy...and they guy goes with someone else and bam.....someone isn't paying enough....even though his offer was worse. We always made it a clear 50% of all owners in our private leagues because of that issue. If it's a pay league, especially keeper/dynasty format, there should be no voting...owners should have the smarts to openly trade. Key...don't bring in idiots for owners! It is nearly as bad as having Commish only veto power. Both the 1/3rd and Commish methods are clearly the fox guarding the hen house. 50% works great especially in 16-20 team leagues but shouldn't matter large or small....1/3rd is 1/3rd.

Nathan I can see your point if it was a smaller league. However, most leagues I play in, and all the ones I'm in charge of, have 16-teams, and the rule is 1/3 rounded up to the next whole person, so in a 16-team league it takes 6 vetoes. Now, I know my league members enough that if 6 guys reject a trade, its a bad trade. Assuming for a sec neither principal involved in trade is gonna make a veto, and I dont veto, that means 6 out of 13 teams felt it was no good....as far as I'm concerned, that's all i need to know. Now a smaller league, maybe 8 or 10 where 3 or 4 vetoes is gonna reject. The actual percentage if you didn't vote is actually HIGHER. Say an 8-team league with 3 vetoes. If you don't vote, or neither of principals in trade, that means out of the 5 remaining teams, 3 rejected it....That's already more than half!

    questions? anyone?

    by yomama Jun 8, 2008 9:41 PM

Is there an actual in-season tiebreaker for matches? Is it era? Our league settings state the playoff ties are resolved thru h2h from league play..... So that means each week should have a determined winner, correct?

Already answered. It is how the teams did for the last completed week. If that week is a tie, you go back 1 more week. You keep going back a week at a time until the tie is broken.

    How is Schwarber OF eligible?

    by krashtastic Jul 21, 2015 11:17 AM

Yahoo does switch things around, but never what is needed for position eligibility. I have been playing at Yahoo since 2002 and it has always been five games started or ten appearances for non-pitching positions and three starts to gain SP eligibility or five relief appearances to gain that.

Veto Voting Issue- 1/3 don't cut it

    by Nathan Jul 31, 2015 11:40 AM

Private leagues had the option to set a number of votes prior to this season. The feature was removed and the flat 1/3 vote was put in place. Private leagues can also have commish approves as an option, where the commish is the sole approver or vetoer of the trade.

  • I have had an issue with veto's in my league. Currently the only option is that if 1/3 of the league veto's then the deal is done no matter how fair of a deal it was. I think we should have the option to chose the percentage it takes to veto a trade. Give us the option to choose 1/2 or 1/3 may be. I think this would make some leagues run a little smoother. Thoughts?

There are no tiebreakers for weekly ties. If team A plays team B and the score is 5-5, it is a tie.

If you look at league standings and 2 teams are tied, the team that had the better record that week will be ranked about the other team. For example, teams C and D are tied in the standings. Team C had a 6-4 record last week and team D had 3-7. Team C will be ranked above team D.

The tiebreaker Dusty is referring to applies to the playoffs only.
