my point exactly....and honestly in the 3rd id like to get more from a player than the risk involved in these guys....id take a later SS if it were me
well you have dominant hitters for a few positions....id try to trade away some of that depth for youth and/or SP/RP....maybe cano or zimmerman or rios (if you can get someone to want him...i have been trying for close to 2 years to trade him in my dynasty league)
1) jason heyward has done pretty well this past year (when hitting leadoff...not trying to hit HR)
2) oscar tavarez is still in the minors and still projected to contend for batting titles later in his career (with power and a few SB)
3) mike olt had eye issues and is tearing the cover off of the ball since his surgery
4) freeman is already a top 1B with a projection to be a first round value soon
with all that being said, buxton is by far the better "prospect" than any of the guys you mentioned....hes #1 on almost all 2014 prospect rankings i have seen....hes clearly a special talent who needs to be treated as such....
also, harper was the #1 prospect (on almost all 2012 prospect rankings....AND 2011) the same year that matt moore was 2nd and trout was 3rd (and 2nd in 2011)...heyward, stras, stanton the year before....LONG STORY short, top prospects (top 3-5) have done well over the last few years (since the saber-metric community has been booming) and i believe that scouts have an easier job determining success of players now than they did even 5-10 years ago....

jose fernandez, votto, cutch, holliday, puig, bogaerts, pedroia....someone wants this team, im sure...
agreed...even tho harper is a beast and will be for years, buxton has a 9A rating (the 9 means perennial all star talent...the A means strong likely-hood that he will reach his potential)
your question is so vague there is no way of giving you a good answer...what are your strengths? how did you end up without a 2b? what are the free agents? keeper league or redraft? league size? roto H2H?
id like to see more of hosmer before i say anything like that. hes been up and down. he is a great talent, but myers came on strong last year after adjusting to MLB pitching (and has the higher ceiling of the two id say...his last year in the minors was rediculious....also assuming you dont pick machado bc you want to win now, bc he had a setback today apparently)
or he could get traded to the cubbies....and darvish already has a great team around him and has 300k potential...
if you are looking for this year only then i would go with myers....for a long term plan id go with machado probably
more details are needed to give a better answer (league size, categories, roto vs H2H, etc) but it really comes down to 1 and 3....and the only guys that are different in 1 and 3 are kershaw/gyorko and jones/shields.....you already have some solid hitters in both, so id go with the better pitcher (who is worth way more than jones in a standard roto league IMO) and a good potential bat instead of another stud hitter and good pitcher....

I run a dynasty league and one manager didnt respond to the invite this year. I invited someone else, and they tell me that they now realize that this league will take too much time that they dont have (and i dont want people with just a toe in the water). Long story short, it was the 2nd place team last year. We already drafted (no he did not draft badly...in fact i think he did well considering he was 15th). The league is very active and trades happen all the time. 4 player minor league roster as well (going to 6 this year and 8 next year) Jose Fernandez, Votto, McCutchen, Holliday, Puig, Bogaerts, Pedroia (addison russell for the minors) are some notable players. As you can see this team is in great shape but needs some pitching most likely.
send me an email if you have any questions or want to see the categories or full roster....experienced and active managers only please....this league takes lots of time and dedication

so....youre trying to draft guys with o-ranks of 38 and 42 in the 5th round? these guys will be gone in the 4th if not 3rd....especially bc they play SS....that being said this year id take reyes...keeper/dynasty id take segura

3rd place team is already taken. 15th place team is a work in progress and could be turned around quickly in this league bc most of the managers made at least 3 trades last year with many of them making way more
i run a 16 team dynasty league and we have 2 spots where managers have not responded to emails. there are 11 hitter categories and 11 pitcher categories. one team was 3rd and the other was 15th and is rebuilding. larger rosters and 4 player minor league (moving to 6 this year and 8 next year). ability to keep up to 21 but not required to keep that many. post your email address if you are interested and ill send you the teams that are available.

you also said he would "NEVER hit above .270"......time has proven you wrong with stanton once, and im sure it will again....and a "team full of chone figgins" two years ago when you said he was better than stanton, would have gotten you a last place finish...so theres that reality for you....

too slow and too simple bc i dont follow your commands....must me some world you live in...i guess ill just go draft chone figgins in the 8th round bc his 162 game averages are still pretty legit....

.270 and .290 are a pretty big difference...plus stanton is still only like 24....so he has a substantially better chance to hit above .290 (again) than pete incaviglia dont you think?
