I'd take Rollins easily, because I think he'll at least put up the better counting stats. MAYBE this is Cozart's year, but I just don't see any good reason why it should be.

I think this is a question that has some potential for good discussion - an aging vet who's playing poorly but has a loooooong track record of production vs. a guy who's theoretically in his prime, flashed good skills in the minors and hasn't consistently performed at the major league level, but who's convinced a few people that he might finally be putting it together this year.

    Pick Up Michael Foltynewicz...NOW

Just wanted to bump this because apparently it's official. Reported by Tommy Stokke at Today's Knuckleball and Michael Keneski at The Fantasy Sports Boss. I don't know where these guys get their info, so I hope they're not just taking stabs in the dark just to be "first" to report.

Rotowire has daily MLB lineups, and he's in there!

Oh I agree, I can't watch much Orioles baseball in my neck of the woods (although ironically these are games, against a Chicago team, are ones I would ordinarily be able to watch), but they certainly seem like a good fan base. Plus it would probably be an uplifting experience in the middle of so much negativity.

  • dave dave Apr 28, 2015 4:46 PM Flag

The thing is that they've already scheduled a doubleheader for the couple of Sox games that are cancelled. And if you're suggesting that they also reschedule the Rays games, that would mean that the Orioles would be going 5-6 days without playing baseball - and I'm sure we've all read the stories that arise during the playoffs about how players feel that more than a couple of days off between games really throws off their rhythm and routine.

    Drop Santanna, Pierce or Soan?

I agree. I'd probably lean toward dropping Pearce since you seem pretty well set at 1B/OF, and while Santana isn't doing well, he's a decent name to have on your bench (for the time being anyway).

    Jimmy Rollins....26th ranked SS-eligible player

It's three weeks into the season. You deserve the #$%$ that people are giving you here.

Also, what exactly is the matter with backing struggling players? Desmond is currently ranked 23rd, just 3 spots ahead of Rollins - guess I would have to be an idiot for backing him?

Oh yeah, between his stuff and the team he's on, I think he automatically becomes a top tier closer with this news.

Will Yelich please go do the DL today?

It's a shame for Nathan, but I'm sure it's a welcome development for all you Nathan owners who were using a DL slot for him.

I think Ausmus was saying that Nathan would get the closer job when he returned, but Soria's been really good so this just eliminates any of those lingering questions.

I'm right there with you. Just moved Smyly out of one of my two DL slots today, so it sure would be nice to be able to toss Yelich in there.

How do I fix this mess?

I agree with most of this, although I might try to trade Sandoval because for some reason a lot of people have a hard-on for him.

Overall there's a good core here, but a lot of the supporting cast can be dumped.

Right, I saw that too! But sheesh, the Dodgers are trying to win and surely Mattingly can't argue with the numbers for much longer.

I believe he was a SS in Cuba, and then he converted to 2b early in his Dodgers tenure. I guess they think enough of him to start him at 3b as well. But yeah, if it was any other team, I'm sure they would've just found an everyday slot in the outfield for him.

Strong, are you being serious right now? I ask because I don't think I've ever seen you mention his name, and although I do disagree with you at times, I know that you do your research and have sound reasoning behind your opinions. I'm second-guessing my decision a little bit but would feel a little better knowing that #$%$ Strong, ever-curmudgeonly toward unproductive players, would like Guerrero on his team.

Oh wow, a 15 team keeper? I know there are plenty of playing time concerns, but I think he's answering any questions about his abilities, so I'm very surprised that he hasn't been snagged in your league yet.

Oh yeah, great investment in a keeper league. Surely by next year he'll be a full time starter - and he's got years of Cuban ball under his belt, which I can put a little more stock in than a lot of rookies who come up with a lot of hype but only 2-3 years of minor league experience.

We just need Mattingly to give Guerrero a consistent chance. I've read some pieces that suggest that Mattingly wanted to give Uribe a shot at 3b based on his veteran presence and contributions last year, but man! Get this kid in there!

  • I just grabbed him, minutes after he homered earlier.

His numbers throughout his career (Cuba and the minors) have been stellar, and he's in his physical prime at age 28. It was almost certainly unnecessary for me to jump on him this early in a 10 team league, and questions about his playing time abound. But heck, if he continues to get one AB per day and hits a home run every time, I'll take it!

I simply couldn't ignore the performance thus far and really would have kicked myself if someone else snagged him.

    Tyson Ross

dave dave Apr 23, 2015 4:34 PM Flag

Ross has always, always, had control issues. I mean, "issues" probably isn't the right word - Rick Ankiel had "issues." Ross just has a history of giving up a few more walks than you would hope/expect from a pitcher with his abilities.

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. He's 28 years old and this is just his third season as a full time starter; he'll improve. And right now, his BB rate is high even by Ross standards. However, this is the baseline of what you signed up for when you drafted Ross - high Ks, but also a BB rate that can easily jeopardize a start. He'll probably never be a great WHIP guy, but his stuff is plenty good enough that he can get out of many jams that he gets himself into.

I definitely would have taken deGrom over Ross, and Carrasco is a toss-up for me. But it wasn't a bad pick and you'll be fine with Ross.

    Cespedes or Braun

I certainly can't argue with the numbers.

But sometimes in fantasy, you just gotta listen to your gut and then let your gut convince you to make somewhat-outlandish analysis on a message board. I like Yo in Detroit and believe Braun will experience a precipitous dropoff.

(Speaking of trending down, Braun's hr/fb has declined each year for the past 3 years, to the point that last year was a career low - although I do accept that this could be totally irrelevant if he's over his thumb issue.)
