Commissioner Corner Message Board

Standard Operating procedure is this. yahoo adds a lot of minors players every year to the database in the beginning of the year, mostly top or upper level prospects but a good amount. however, some always slip through the cracks, and if they are not added at the beginning of the year, then they will be added after they are called up and go on waivers. This happened with HOU SP Velasquez. So, when Olivera gets called up, he'll get added to database, waivers will decide who owns him.

I thought I posted....well, in a nutshell I think machado has shown a lot this year with the power, and given his upside at AVG vs. Bryant and premium position I lean strongy towards Team B

Bryant ROS .260/17. A lot of his future value depends on A) can he cut down on K's and b) can he become a more complete hitter as he's a dead pull hitter on the ground now which will lead to a lot of shifts and possible low avg. Machado is a little bit of a pull hitter but K's less and should be able to hit .280 to .285. Also, distance on flyballs is about the same for both, at 285ft which is good, not great. I think you may be underestimating machado here and overestimating Bryant, especially given position. Of course, it's always possible that Bryant turns into Stanton type hitter as well...but I like machado side here.

I wouldn't sweat harper for Rendon, Rendon in his own right once he gets going will be really good. I don't see anything wrong with this deal. don't know if there is a clear 'winner' but it's fair.

well, first I believe that .243 average you are citing is for his MLB career, because the last few seasons in the minors he hit .355, .257, .339, .299 and .280. Sometimes it's too good to be true (.355) sometimes it's too bad to be true (.257) but overall a solid record.
Second, it's simple math. K rates tends to stabilize quickly, so a 14.5% K rate is very exciting. Assume 100ABs. He K's 15 of them. He hits 5HR. He walks 5 (not a big walk guy), that leaves 75ABs where he puts the ball in play. League average BABIP is about .300, so that's about 22#$%$ we'll round it up to 23. Add in the 5HRs, that's 28 hits in 95 official ABs for a .295 average. Very exciting indeed.

I'd keep Franco. Very impressive his 14.5% K rate, which means he could bat .300 and with some power of 20-30HRs that's very helpful for years. Gordon is riding a high right now, but speed ages quicker than power. Unless you are competing for just this year and need the SB I wouldn't do it.

no way I would deal arendado, marte or even degrom for Fernandez straight up. Maybe springer, I'd try Cespedes honestly. Or Rendon for that matter, way better than Fernandez when everyone is healthy.

Panik, but these are not realistic long term options in even 12 team mixers. not enough HR/SB from Panik but you'll get a good average and some Rs. Duffy has a little more pop and decent speed, but playing time might be a question as the year goes on (trade?)

for this year, I would expect like a 4 ERA and 1.3 whip and around 100 IP. He's got talent to be better in 2016 and 2017 obviously.

Just a few samples...
Archer - first start 2013 when brought up 4IP/5ER/3BB/4K, finished year 3.22 ERA
Gray first start 2013 6IP/4R/2ER/3BB/5K, finished year 2.79 ERA
cole 5IP/3ER, Lincecum 4.1IP/5ER in 2007
Most of those guys had ho-hum rookie years, and then later developed into studs, Gray and Archer were probably the best but they were a little older. He didn't pitch a lot last year (75IP) so he may not pitch long here either my guess he gives them a shot until they can trade for someone then shut him down, maybe 90-100IP. Projections have him for a 4 ERA, he could be better or worse.

no verlander. the deal Stanton for bautista and Zimmerman is not terrible, I think you are losing a little and i'd like a better sp coming back like kluber?
