Draft and Trade Talk Message Board

I get what you're saying and I actually agree pitching is deep which is why I'm not focusing as much on it this year. He just has a different philosophy where he likes infielders, pitchers, outfielders since he believes OF are the deepest position. And given he wants at least 10 pitchers, I'd hope he gets a roster that he likes. Nonetheless, thanks for advice

It's not a money league, we play for pride. I genuinely feel terrible for the guy, especially because he usually attends the draft each year.

Yes my friend....I actually want every team to field a competitive team and he makes the draft each year. I don't want him to draft a terrible team because Yahoo decided to give him players that are overranked or because he got stuck with 13 batters.

I'm commish of a league and feel bad for one of my friends who can't make the draft because of brutal work schedule. I told him I'd try to give him advice on preranking players and was wondering how to help. He has the 3rd overall pick in a 12-team H2H snake draft. There's 16 starting positions (9 batters, 7 pitchers) and 4 bench spots....he usually likes having at most 1 batter on the bench and the rest on the bench.
I figured perhaps ranking his 4 preferred players out of every 10 players Yahoo has pre-ranked and perhaps excluding all hitters ranked between 200-250. Would both these steps ensure he has a lineup he can be happy with given he'd like 10-11 pitchers? Thanks!

I ask because I'm normally the commissioner for most of the fantasy leagues with my friends and I almost always end up with a pick in the top 4 or 3 when using the random generator. I'm not cheating and I only use the randomizer once but I wouldn't blame any of my friends for wondering if I am because of how often I get a high pick. I'm usually lucky, even when I'm not commish I get a high pick. I ended up getting 1st overall for this draft and was glad but I'd feel guilty if the randomizer favours commisioners and that's why I keep getting high picks. And I'd try to find a way around it. So does anyonw know?
Lowry, Al Jeff, LaMarcus Aldridge, Hayward. I'm playing the best team in the league in the semis and I've just lost my 4 best players...in addition to losing Melo earlier in the year. Would you drop them to try and win or hold until about Thursday and drop them then if I'm still being blown out? I'm down 7-2 at the moment and I don't have the man games to compete, it's frustrating to know my best players may not return soon.
I have a bye this week in my 10-team league and was wondering if I should add Paul George for a stash? I honestly don't know if he has any upside for the rest of the year but given his talent, might be worth a shot. I'm the 2nd seed and there's a chance the 6th seed can upset the 3rd seed due to injuries. If that happens, I could be patient for more than a week. So would you take a flier on Paul George?

How do you feel about these adding Kris Bryant as a sleeper and David Ortiz as a bust? I'm iffy on Bryant only because I'm unsure if he'll start the season in the majors

Thanks for not picking me apart for my mistake and giving insight lol.
I agree with what you're saying about Fernandez but with where he's being drafted, it's worth a gamble on a guy that could be really dominant.
Similarly Doolittle goes late in the draft but could be a steal down the stretch if he's healthy.
With the Padres, my gut tells me they won't meet the high expectations and he won't win many games. I see busts on that time such as Upton. But being in the NL and that park, I guess his ERA and WHIP should be low so you have a point.
I agree with your sleeper additions for the most part, I hadn't put the here as I didn't want to list too many but I guess it probably would have been better to include the guys you listed above in hindsight.
With the bust, interesting list and something to keep an eye on. I hadn't thought of the guys you listed except Upton and Tulo(with his injury concerns).

My definition of sleeper and bust are guys that should be drafted before and after their Yahoo pre-rank. Sorry if I mislead you. Darvish I'll admit may have been foolish but he's still ranked 36th before the draft by Yahoo so I felt like including him. I had no idea Gray was injured...he seems on track to start Opening day so had no knowledge of an injury. Based on my definition, any names to add/remove?

I never said I was an expert. I just listed the guys I had on both lists and was wondering if you thought I was wrong or right and who I could add...who isn't an obvious sleeper and bust?
Hi there, I've tried to compile a list of sleepers and busts this year and was wondering if you agree/disagree or had names to add. Let me know what you think.
I know some of you may be wondering why I have Cueto, VMart as sleepers or Darvish as a bust. I looked at the Yahoo pre-draft rankings of Cueto and VMart at 52 and 70 and feel that's far too low for two guys that finished in the top 10 overall rankings last year unless you all think they'll regress. With Yu Darvish, he's likely to miss the year but for whatever reason...Yahoo has him listed at 36. Once he officially has the surgery, he won't be on any list but until them, he's a bust. With all that in mind, do you agree/disagree with the lists and have any other names to throw in? Thanks!
I just packaged Couture + Howard in a deal for Rinne as I believe he'll be an elite goalie next year as well. So my 5 keepers are Kane, Hank, Rinne, Weber, Kopi. I'm still looking to trade Weber for a forward like you suggested like maybe Benn or Kessel (bad year but a perennial top 10 scorer, I expect a bounce back). I'm likely keeping Kopi because his value this year is low, not much I get back in a trade. Thanks for your advice!
Yeah another good point, the year I won I had 3 solid goalies. It does mean a lot to have solid number 1s in net who are reliable while looking through free agency for those sleeper Cs. With McDavid coming in next year for example, he could be someone I could try and grab in a mid-round to take a flier on and see if he's worth the hype. And I'm just not a fan of guys that are only C-eligible unless they have a lot of value
If I can get a great return out of Weber, I might actually do it. You bring up a great point, the year I won my fantasy league I didn't take my first Dman until round 6 or 7. With the year he's having, it's very possible I could get a lot for him. So I'd shop him but if I can't trade him, would you rather keep Kopi or Howard? Kopi seems like the right choice but I wonder if he'd have a bounce back year
In a 12-team H2H league with skater stats G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SOG and goalie stats W, GAA, SV%, SHO. I'm going to miss the playoffs so looking to rebuild and trade who I won't be keeping for a draft pick. My first 4 keepers are Patrick Kane, Lundqvist, Couture, Weber. Who would your 5th be? Kopitar or Howard? I'm planning on trying to deal who I won't keep but hard to guess who'd be a better option next year.
I'd trade Backstrom but not Stamkos. Stamkos is an elite fantasy option and is likely top 4 next year behind Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin.
Backstrom and Kane are more or less the same but Kane has multi-positional eligibility which makes him the better option imo
