Jeff's right, they won't even see a veto button. Overturning the trade is entirely up to you. You may get emails from managers protesting if the trade is lopsided but you may not. You could also post a message on your league asking the managers involved to defend their side of the trade. But again, you're not obligated to do that. Just remember that while some of the managers may feel you're being democratic and fair minded, there will be others who may see it as weakness or a shirking of your responsibility. Tough to please everyone. Wait a bit to see if you get any protests, then just use your best judgement and stand by your decision. Good luck.

No drop list for non draft players?

    by Walter Jun 4, 2014 6:23 AM

In a private league you can ask your commissioner to disable the list. If it's a public league, no, you can't reset or turn off the can't cut list. You can still trade the player in question, you just can't drop him. If you picked up someone off the wire who found their way onto the can't cut list then they must be putting up good numbers.

Who are you concerned about, someone like Dozier? Work out a trade if you don't think he'll keep up the pace. Don't say no one will deal for him until you try. Remember, you've already declared you'd drop the guy if you could so keep making offers, start high and work your way lower until you make it happen.

Yeah, just ignore posty and FEL*CC. They're entitled to their opinions but they are *exactly * the sort of managers you don't want in a league with external rules not addressed by Yahoo. Chances are they wouldn't join a league like yours after reading the Commish note, but there will be people like them who do and they will ignore your rules and/or try to argue with you about them. They may even resort to name calling or try to imply that they're smarter than you. That's why you start your league early next year. Give yourself plenty of time to sound out your new managers and weed out the troublemakers out prior to drafting.

This is Deesaster Zones lineup, untouched by human hands since April 18th.
This team is 15th out of 16 teams. Contending this year would be difficult, but you will be able to keep ten players (with no costs) next season. Tthis team is not as bad as it's place in the standings, it just needs some TLC.
    C - Wilin Rosario
    1B- David Ortiz
    2B- Brandon Phillips
    3B- Matt Dominguez
    SS- Jean Segura
    OF- Jacoby Ellsbury
    OF- Hunter Pence
    OF- Nelson Cruz
    UT- Khris Davis
    UT- Norichika Aoki
    BN- Michael Choice
    BN- Dexter Fowler
    BN- Scooter Gennet
    BN- Mitch Moreland
    BN- DJ LeMahieu

    SP- Yu Darvish
    SP- Mike Minor
    SP- AJ Burnett
    SP- AJ Griffin (DL)
    SP- Brandon Morrow (DL)
    RP- Casey Janssen
    RP- Jonathan Papelbon
    RP- Paco Rodriguez (NA)
    P - Josh Fields
    P- *empty*
    BN- Jorge De La Rosa

    4 DL slots, all empty
    4 NA slots, all empty

What you don't seem to get is that it is *not* a glitch. Yahoo has never and will never mandate how a manager fills his bench slots. They do not offer leagues that dictate that each team must carry x number of hitters and y number of pitchers. They will never make a rule that managers must fill all active slots. That's why you'll find folks carrying 15 pitchers for 8 pitching slots or guys like the one below not rostering a catcher at all. There has never been any rule to stop them. I know this has to be a H2H league, because most of the stuff you're describing wouldn't fly in roto (not because they couldn't, of course, it's more because they'd be damaging their teams success with all the punting of stats & cats)

You have strong feelings about how you play and you want to form a league that respects these limits and is willing to abide by the external (non Yahoo) rules you want to implement. All anyone is trying to tell you is that it's your right to try this approach in your own league. You're just going to have to make sure that anyone joining is willing to abide and you must be ready to replace managers who violate. Nothing to do with bashing anyone, or someone outsmarting someone else. As long as the rules are the same for everyone and they're made clear pre-draft, that's it. They either agree to play by your rules or they're out and you find someone like-minded to replace them. I would suggest starting/reforming your league ASAP next season with a detailed Commish Note that spells out all the rules as you see them, as well as making it clear that anyone disagreeing will be replaced.

holding and losing at the same time

    by francisco May 30, 2014 3:55 PM

Holds aren't an official MLB stat and I agree, they can be very confusing. Looking at the box score, my guess is that the error by Rutledge that allowed Tony Gwynn Jr to reach is the key. That play happened between the two outs Hawkins recorded. Had Gwynn been retired, the inning would have been over and Hawkins would have had a save. Instead, he was removed and Boone Logan came on to give up a single to Revere (scoring Gwynn Jr and making Hawkins the pitcher of record despite the run being unearned) and then the homer to Ryan that made Hawkins the loser.
Confused? I still am too, haha. Holds suck...I'm getting rid of them next season.

Yeah, I remember this too. You're trying to enforce a rule not supported by Yahoo (telling managers how many hitters or pitchers they have to carry. And we're not talking about how many players are benched on a given day. Hell, you can bench your whole team, that's not the point.
Your league has X number of active slots and X number of bench slots. You want to mandate two things-
1 All active slots must be filled (for batters and pitchers)
2 You want managers to roster X number of batters/pitchers on their bench (i.e. can't use all bench slots to carry batters and vice-versa).

Which would be fine if that was something you established as a rule before the season started. It's too late for that this season so you'll just have to live with it. And I hate to be a pessimist, but even if/when you form new league rules for next season, don't be surprised when folks make use of every loophole available to them next season, too. You're really going to have to make your new rule a prominent feature for joining and be prepared to enforce it when it's inevitably violated. Good luck.

    DL to DL

    by Boricua May 31, 2014 11:02 PM

Do your DL swap. You'll get an "over roster limit" as soon as you place Kipnis on your bench or in an active slot. That's fine, ignore it and place Lee into the DL slot vacated by Kipnis. The error goes away and you're set.
However, if you're looking to add Taveres (or anyone else for that matter), you still have to drop somebody. You used the free roster slot created by Lee's DL trip to activate Kipnis.

How does your league handle inactive managers?

    by Dewey D May 31, 2014 7:28 PM

Replacement is really the only option. If you can't get someone to set lineups or make use of DL slots then chances are slim they'll be motivated by threats to fine them. Hearing about fines makes me think it's a money league. If the guy paid his dues and still doesn't care about his team? Replace him, let someone else take his team for a free test drive.
As far as "bench raid", no, that's not cool at all. Who decides who gets his best players? That would be a mess and likely tick off the majority of managers who end up with the scraps.

If it's commish review, just ask him to kill it. If it's league votes, have goth managers state the case on the league board on ask that everyone veto. If the veto fails, trade the players in question back to each other.

    Issues with a baseball league.

    by Raiderman May 25, 2014 9:31 AM
Mike Mike May 26, 2014 3:46 PM Flag

Raiderman, you can give them low ratings under the Managers tab, but that's about it. I'm pretty well convinced that Yahoo does nothing with these ratings (certainly nothing evident to us as users/potential managers). Yahoo doesn't get involved with private leagues at all, they're totally controlled by the league commissioner(s). It's too late to help now, but for the future you should always check out profiles, commish notes and (especially) commish changes and see if the league has any archives. Send out emails to sound out the commish and the other managers. Sometimes the responses you get (or don't get) can be red flags. I'm sorry that you're stuck in a league with a cheating manipulator as commish. You could try putting on a fake smile and emailing him to ask if he could replace your team. I wouldn't go into detailed complaints, just tell him you won't have time for the league and hope he finds you a replacement. Good luck.

cant cut list - need info

Mike Mike May 22, 2014 12:57 PM Flag

I wouldn't call that cheating exactly. But I don't like that the player in question would become a free agent. Better way to do it would be to have the commish disable the list temporarily, allow *all* managers to drop players as they see fit, then turn the list back on. That way any player(s) dropped will be on waivers rather than FAs available to the first person who happens to be online at the time of the drop.

Yet there he is. You could still trade him. Or, if it's a private league, you could ask your commish to disable the list. If you're in a Public league, you'll just have to wait and deal with it. You can lobby Yahoo to remove him if you go to the feedback forums but I wouldn't count on a lightning quick response.

You can check out the list of forced players. Go to your league's scoring and settings and click on "view list of forced players". This is a list of all players that were in the minors or unsigned FAs at the beginning of the season. Since you opted for the wait for call up setting, none of these guys would have been available in your league at the start of the season. Of course, some of them have been called up by now and many of the FAs have signed with and are playing for teams now.
I'm not sure if this helps with your situation, but it does provide a list. You could also look at players on the Players page using the 2014 season totals filter to confirm if a player has appeared in an MLB game yet.
