    Tell the truth!!!

    by Mark 21 hours ago

Not a terrible trade, but honestly I prefer what you gave up. I do like Stanton better than Jones. But I don't think losing Trumbo and Storen was worth it. Not for Perez and Rodney. Plus, I believe in Jones. The only thing the slow month of May ensures is that he's going to have to be that much hotter at some point to get to his standard 25/90/10 numbers by the end of the season.

  • One team needs an Outfielder. One team needs a 2nd basemen. Fair enough trade? Which side do you like in a vacuum?

    Wacha for Tulo straight up?

    by jimhoward Jun 1, 2015 11:13 AM

I agree that Wacha probably isn't enough and Kluber is too much. Might be worth trying Wacha, though. His value is at an all time high and Tulo's is pretty low.

The other crazy thing is looking at all the other guys I could have had from his list that are peforming at or better than their draft-day value. Gardner, Byrd, A-Rod, Aoki, A-Gon, Freeman, Granderson, etc.

  • John John May 27, 2015 2:30 PM Flag

Too bad Strong doesn't seem to be around anymore. Time for the first quarter update.

The team I picked from his never draft list:

    C) Pick a F/A
    1B) Rizzo
    2B) Gordon
    3B) Longo
    SS) Tulo
    OF) Stanton, Bautista, Harper
    UT) Upton, Braun
    BN) Prince, Ortiz, Hamilton, Bruce

SP) Cueto, Greinke, Arrieta, Gio, Hughes, Latos, Quintana

Perhaps we'd have snatched Vogt at Catcher. Or someone terrible. It wouldn't really matter the way the rest of the offense is performing. The biggest challenge for this offense would be trying to find a way to play everyone. We might have had to trade 1B or OF for someone like Donaldson or Han-Ram to upgrade our 3B/SS scenario.

Pitching wise, Latos would obviously be long gone in favor of whichever F/A I could have grabbed. Maybe Huges too. The rest I'd still be content to own. Some of struggled, especially early on, but Cueto, Greinke, Arrieta is a solid core.

All in all, I'm pretty sure this team filled with only players no one should have ever drafted under any circumstances would be winning just about any league.

    Tuesday SP's to start

by David Vest May 26, 2015 4:23 PM

I'd definitely start Garcia. He looked like his old self his last time out. And that was his first start in a year, pitching on the road (history tells us he's much better at home), and with a backup catcher behind the plate instead of Molina. His old self never racked up K's and he won't now either, but as long as he's healthy I don't see him hurting anyone's fantasy team. Should give you solid ratios and some W's. If I owned Hendrick I guess I'd start him too because I typically start all the pitchers I own and try to win W's, K's even at the peril of ERA/WHIP. But that's a slightly tougher call. Hitters park against a tough lineup.

    Adam Jones?

Goldschmidt is clearly better than Votto. Jones is clearly better than Kemp. If you combine the projected numbers, both sides are going to give you extremely similar stats. That's why a lot of people are saying it's a pointless trade. Because, either way, you've got 1B and OF covered. And, either way, you should get similar totals. The most productive trades are the ones where you get rid of something you have in excess to gain something you're weak in (infield for outfield, 2B for 3B, pitchers for batters). Trades like the one you're listing are usually vanity trades. The decision is more on which players you'd rather have on your team and follow closely. Or based on some gut feeling that one of the players is going to crash and burn or hit the DL.

All that said, if I personally had to pick a side, I'd take Goldy/Kemp. That's because Goldschmidt is the best player in the deal. When all else fails, I tend to pick the side getting the best overall player.

Burns is better than Escobar. Make the move.

I'd take my chances on Rendon. If you don't mind, go weigh in on my which OF to target thread.

    Hanley/Brantley trade

Go with Brantley, especially since you have Tulo at SS and Han-Ram loses that eligibility next year anyway.

    Price Trade

    by Mike May 26, 2015 12:30 PM
John John May 26, 2015 2:46 PM Flag

The deal hinges on Martin and I don't trust him. Also, Wacha has looked great and I'm not personally scared of his peripherals (he's deliberately cut down on K's in favor of pitching to more contact and improving efficiency), but St. Louis is watching his innings closely and it wouldn't shock me if he hits the DL at some point this year with that shoulder issue. I like the Price/Kendrick side.

If you don't mind, go weigh in on my which OF to target thread.

  • 10 team H2H. I'm overloaded at 2B. When Rendon comes off the DL I won't even have a place to play them all. Meanwhile, I am weakest in my OF. Who could I reasonably target with Dozier or Kipnis? Some Outfielders I'm looking at because their teams are weak at 2B are Pence, Bautista, Blackmon, Holliday. Maybe even Jones considering how cold he has been. Also the Jones owner only has Neil Walker at 2B and is stacked in his OF with Harper, Gomez, Braun, Holliday, Jones.. What do you guys think? Which 2B should I trade and which OF should I target?

    MY TEAM:
    C) Santana
    1B) Hosmer
    2B) Kipnis
    3B) Donaldson
    SS) Tulo
    OF) Stanton
    OF) Castillo
    OF) Burns
    UT) Dozier
    UT) Semien
    BN) Guerrero
    DL) Dickerson, Rendon

    deGrom today vs St. Louis

The Cardinals are bi-polar. Their offense seems to be all or nothing. When they run into a guy with strikeout stuff that's on his game, they can really look bad. They have a lot of hitters that will chase out of the zone. It's looking like today is one of those days. This is why you always start your starters. Especially if you're not dealing with an innings limit.

Let managers manage. Some people are still scared of Cutch. Some people are extremely high on Gordon this year. This is not close to a veto worthy trade.

Not sure exactly how I'd counter, but I still like Cole and he might be a decent by low candidate. Maybe a package involving him. You might want to get Davis back too since you're giving up your primary 3B and moving Marisnick to that spot.

No you don't. Backup catcher's are almost always useless. A couple of bench bats is enough.

Drop him. I'll gladly pick him up. All pitchers are going to have these outings, especially young ones.

Not bad thoughts. Equating a hitter to a pitcher is a tough thing to do. I'll leave that up to the others. But, I would look at pitchers you like that were ranked in the 80-120 range pre-season. I care nothing about pre-season ranks and ADP, but a lot of managers will still look at Braun, with his name value and his pre-season rank in the 20's, and they'll assume they're getting a great deal by trading a pitcher ranked 90.
