A laugher just offered to me

Yeah, people make some dumb offers. What are your team needs, thought? There might be a counter in there somewhere. Maybe something like Harper & Walker for Altuve & Fister?

His trade as he offered it is crazy. Bumgarner Fister. Harper Altuve. Kazmir R.Zimmerman, Walker Balfour. Melancon Frieri. There is nothing there that is good for you.

    use waiver priority on desmond?

Definitely. There is no way a guy like Desmond should be on the wire in a 10 team league, you have to add him.

Yes, start him. They were capping him about 60 pitches his first start and about 80 his second start, so I'd say they'll let him throw 90-100 this time.

What about in an 8 team league where this is my current pitching staff and I'm already only keeping 1 bench bat? Who would you drop for Heaney?

    Batters pitchers roster balance.

Generally I don't like carrying bench bats. The likelihood they will actually give you production on the occassional day you start them is really low. I'm with Jigga that sometimes there will be a really good bat in F/A that you really have to take a flyer on, in which case it may be smart to pick him up and drop a pitcher temporarily. But as soon as there is an opportunity to drop a bat that has gone cold or sell a hot bat high, then do it to get your balance leaning back toward pitching.

That's general advice. Looking at your specific team in the context of an 8 team league, I think you would be smart to drop some bench bats and start trying to trade some bats too. I don't see any reason for you to carry Bogaerts or Seager. I would drop those two right away. Then go to the league tab, look at "team stats" and show the "totals". Fill those two newly opened roster spots with either another starting pitcher (if the totals show you're needing more counting stats like W's & K's) or a reliever with good ratios (if the totals show you need better average stats like ERA/WHIP). In terms of trades, I'd see what you can get in return for Morse or maybe Rizzo. They are both good candidates to sell high, especially Morse, and there is no need for you to have three 1B. You could try to get an upgrade over Panda at 3B in return. Or maybe just another pitcher. Or, shoot higher, try something like packaging Morse with Upton and see if you can get back an even better OF like Jones or Puig.

The main thing is not to be afraid of making moves. 8 teams is a pretty shallow league. In a league that size there will always be quality players available in free agency if one of your guys hits the DL or falls into a big slump.

Kimbrel is the best closer in baseball. I think you can get more than Chisenhall.

I'm a Segura owner and I feel the same way. What he do to lose the leadoff spot this time? He had played much better since getting the spot back. Segura may not be what he was last year, but he's not an 8th place hitter either.

    Puig for Cueto

John John Jun 11, 2014 8:33 PM Flag

You're stacked in the OF for sure and you may need SP, but I'm still not sure I would do that. Puig is the real deal, an elite 1st rounder player at this point. Cueto is probably a round 4 or 5 guy at best. You should be able to trade Rios and get a pitcher that would be close to the Cueto range.

    Who to start tonight?

Thanks for the input. You're a Mets fan...what's up with Wright? Base stealing isn't going so well for him anymore and the power has disappeared especially in the awful home park. Is he going to put it back together ROS or is he just a mediocre fantasy producer at 3B now?

    Too much for Goldie?

John John Jun 11, 2014 5:12 PM Flag

I agree that the Goldy side is better, assuming you have a solid pitching staff and/or there is someone decent in F/A to replace Grienke. This is a bounceback year for Pujols, but it's not going to be Pujols in his prime. His ceiling now is probably 30HR, 95RBI, .285 average while that's closer to Goldy's floor. Plus Goldy will steal a few bases for you and is a better bet to stay healthy.

I was also leaning the way of starting Panda at 3B and Polanco in the UT slot. I know I'm going to feel stupid when Polanco goes 1 for 5 again as he continues to adjust to mlb pitching and wright hits a homer and swipes a bag. That seems to be Wright's MO this year...10 or 20 pure #$%$ games and then one useful one.

    Which side ROS?

I like the Cruz/Trout side. But Gomez and Freeman are both studs, so if 1B is a need and there is fear of a typical Cruz injury I can see the logic in that side of the trade too. Answer my "who to start tonight" post if you have a second.

  • I'm trying to figure out who to start tonight. I have 3B and a UT spot open, so pick two of these three:

    Sandoval @ Tanner Roark
    Wright v. Wily Peralta
    Polanco v. Jason Hammel

How much do I need to offer to get Dee Gordon???

    by Peter Jun 11, 2014 4:09 PM
John John Jun 11, 2014 4:14 PM Flag

If you offered me Choo/Napoli for Gordon I'd give it to you. I recently traded Gordon & Kluber for Cargo and E-Cab if that gives you any baseline idea.

    Dee/Kluber for Cargo/E-Cab. Thoughts?

    by John Jun 7, 2014 2:45 PM

I agree Harper may have been enough to get my OF right, especially if Bruce ever comes around. And I probably have a bigger need at 2B/SS than OF once everyone is healthy. But, again, I'll have both Cargo's, Bryce, Bruce, Craig (and Arcia if he stays hot) to use as trade chips once everyone is healthy. So surely I can move an OF for a SP our IF by playoff time.

  • I just traded Dee Gordon and Cory Kluber for Cargo and Everth Cabrera in a 12 team H2H league. Hoping this will help set my team up better for a potential playoff run. What do you think? Below is my team after trade. I'm a little concerned about my pitching without Kluber, but once all my OF is healthy I figure I can make a trade for a SP if needed.

    C) Santana
    1B) Laroche
    2B) Danny Santana
    3B) Wright
    SS) E-Cab
    OF) CarGomez
    OF) Bruce
    OF) Arcia
    UT) Craig
    BN) Jhonny Peralta
    DL) Harper, Cargo
    NA) Alex Guerrero

SP) Iwakuma, Sanchez, Porcello, Garza, Lynn, Miller, Haren, Bauer

    RP) Jansen, Street, K-Rod,
