Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
Don't forget about Jon Lester in the middle rounds. He's been great this spring and has John Farrell back as the coach this time around. Farrell was the pitching coach for Boston when Lester was the Red Sox ace and gone by the 5th round.
Lincecum could be an intriguing pick also. Ace stuff when he's on, but was an exploded hot pocket last year. If it's late enough, he could be worth a flyer.
I also like Josh Beckett in the later rounds. Moving to the N.L. where he's been a much better pitcher and will get to pitch in much more friendly parks, including his home park.
Now that Chapman is going back as a closer, I can drop a RP (most likely Tyler Clippard) and add a little more offensive depth. I could also pick up Jed Gyorko. 10 team keeper league.
10 team keeper league where we could keep up to 10. I used all 10 spots to keep Trout, Cano, Braun, McCutchen, Adam Jones, Allen Craig, Beltre, Cliff Lee, Greinke, and Chapman. All of the other teams only kept 1-5 players. Did I miss something by using all 10 keepers or did I do the right thing?
Nope. 10 team. I inherited the team last year and it already had Braun, Cano, Beltre, and Lee. Everyone else was a draft pick or FA pick up at some point in the season.
10 team league with 10 keepers
R, H, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, AVG, OPS
IP, W, L, CG, SHO, SV, ER, BB, K, HLD, ERA, WHIP, QS
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, IF, IF, IF, LF, CF, RF, OF, OF, OF, Util, Util, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL, DL, DL, DL
So far my keepers are Mike Trout, Ryan Braun, Robinson Cano, Andrew McCutchen, Adam Jones, and likely Adrian Beltre. That leaves 4 keepers between the following...
Allen Craig, 1B/LF/RF, STL
Brett Lawrie, 3B, TOR
Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC
Eric Hosmer, 1B, KC
Will Middlebrooks, 3B, BOS
Manny Machado, 3B, BAL
Cliff Lee, SP, PHI
Zack Greinke, SP, LAD
Aroldis Chapman, RP, CIN
He was probably my biggest reach, but I took him in the 10th round. By that point all of the proven 3B were gone and I really wanted him even if I had someone at 3rd already. Glad that I did take him when I did because I was immediately boo'ed. :)
I agree for the most part. The only reason I took Ichiro is because of his success in the AL East. Lifetime .350 hitter in the new Yankee stadium and .300+ hitter in his career in the other AL East parks with the exception of Fenway where he's at .283. Figured those numbers were worth a gamble. I've debated dropping Simmons, but 9/10 of the owners are Brave's fans (myself included) and he was my homer pick. :) I would like to add another SP though, so he might be the odd man out.
There will be an interleague game every day of the year this year, so they're spreading interleague play out over the entire season.

Took a few gambles, but I don't think anything too extreme. Lester and Lincecum were 14/15 round picks, so I thought they were well worth a gamble for the possible upside. 9 of the 10 teams are owned by Brave's fans, so Simmons was a homer pick in the 24th round but I like the upside in a stacked lineup.

I felt that it was a safe place to take that risk. Still have 12 more rounds to go, so I can always grab a couple of back up plans. I've read that Lincecum changed his off season workout and has added about 10lbs. I'm hoping that a return of John Farrell will help Lester rebound to something close to his 2007-2010 form when Farrell was the pitching coach.

We were at the end of the 13th round (8th pick out of 10 teams) and I took Lincecum and then Lester in the top of the 14th round....picks 128 and 133 respectively. The other SP's available were guys like Kuroda, Vogelsong, Morrow (who can never stay healthy), Estrada, Fiers, and Hammel. I thought the possible upside of Lincecum and Lester in contract years was better than what was on the board. They're now with a rotation that already had Lee, Greinke, and Scherzer as the top 3 and I felt safe taking the chance on them. Any opinions?
Since it's an offline draft, we draft our teams on the message board and then the commissioner assigns the players to the teams. It works just like an offline draft, only longer time wise.
10 team, H2H, non-keeper. The draft is done on a message board that I frequent and takes quite a while to complete.
Offensive Stats: R, HR, RBI, AVG, SB, BB, K, OPS, FPCT
Pitching Stats: W, L, SV, HLD, ERA, WHIP, K, K/BB, QS
Positions not yet filled are UTILx2, RPx2, Px2, and BNx7 and we're at the end of round 12
All 4 are currently available and there's 1 person left to pick in front of me and he already has Beltre, so all 4 will likely be there for my next 2 picks. I agree about Sandoval....he's on the bottom of the list of those 4, but I can see myself interchanging all of the others as 1, 2, or 3.
Need to add a starting 3B at either the end of the 7th round/top of the 8th. These are the top choices available. 10 team, H2H, non-keeper. Offensive stats are R, HR, RBI, AVG, SB, BB, K, OPS, FPCT
Lawrie, Sandoval, and Ramirez all have injury concerns and I'm not 100% sold on Headley. Advice?
