Don't be too hard on him. Sometimes folks have life problems (in addition to being in last place) that keep them from giving fantasy their full interest.

Agree with T, but it may be tough to get another manager to give you a starting pitcher you can use for the next 2.5 months in exchange for Tulo who may play only 0.5 month in Sept or not at all. As a Tulo owner, I experience you pain. Outcome of Tulo's surgery and rehab progress is not certain.

Trades do not happen in a vacuum unrelated to the rest of the lineup and stat needs. We would have to see both of their rosters to get an idea of whether the guy in last place needs jackson more than fielder. Knowing nothing except those four names, the trade does not look even. But we would have to know a lot more to declare it dumping by the last place guy. If you just ask the last place guy, you can probably tell what is going on.

Since it requires someone with a 340 BA to balance out Stubbs BA, we avoid him, without reservation. That BA deficit is too much to overcome and finish anywhere up in the BA race.

Awful trades occur in fantasy baseball and real baseball all the time. If the trade is between two willing, knowledgeable parties, and there is no collusion, cheating, or dumping to help out a buddy, it should not be vetoed. If you veto it, you're trying to control other people in an activity that is supposed to be fun. That reflects more poorly on you.

Those two fellows are always on my radar screen, but they appear to be so similar, it's a toss up. Either or neither could help you. My guess is people would be more likely to respond is there was some major difference between the two. Good luck.

Wins are not solely correlated with quality of pitcher. Wins also depend on the quality of hitting support he gets from this own team on the day he pitches. So another factor is: Will the Giants hit better and provide better run support for their pitchers than the Padres do for Volquez, the Cubs do for Samardzija, etc? Thus, number of wins in the remaining games is not easy to predict. My opinion (and it is just an opinion) is that Lincecum is likely to win as many remaining games as any of the others you mentioned.

Same question my co-manager and I debated during the 4th round of our draft: Pence or Bruce? Bruce or Pence? LOL Finally my co-manager said 'Look, I just don't like Bruce'. We chose Pence and haven't regretted it. However, the sums of their counting stats (5x5 league) are virtually identical. The real answer to your question is: Who is going to be the hotter, less injured hitter over the remainder of the season? There's no way to KNOW that, so the answer is 'take your best guess.' If you need a tie breaker, consult Fangraphs rest-of-season projections or Shandler's projections.

I guess I would go to Fangraphs website and look at each of their stats for the last 365 days. That would balance what sort of pitcher they were in the second half last year with this year's performance to date. See which one looks better wrt the counting stats in your league.
I agree with the 'slim pickins' heading. By this point of the season, the hidden gems have been mined. Our team is one injury away from having to make the same kind of decisions.
