Ward is a top young goalie on the rise, and although Carolina's had a horrid start to the season, he has the ability to pick up a team and carry it on his shoulders the way only a few goaltenders in the NHL can (e.g. 2009 playoffs). The fact that you're giving up virtually nothing valuable in return makes this trade a steal for you.
