He is insisting that he's coming back. Therefore, it is a risk, but it may be a risk worth taking especially because you have a bye.

I'd keep him.

In similar circumstances (1st by alot) I am holding on to Brand until it's time to play for real- after the bye week.

If a bye week or playoffs are still in question I would probably drop him...
