After last week’s weak field, we fantasy golf pickers have to come back down to earth this week and select from a more talented bunch. We’re not talking a majors field here at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club, but it is a solid group and makes it a fun challenge to narrow my selections to 10 players.
So what do we have this week? Colonial, in Fort Worth, Texas, is a par 70 course, at 7,054 yards. But it’s certainly no pushover—the average cut line since 1995 is 1.92 strokes over par. Still, I can’t help thinking, whenever I see a par 70, whether we’re going to see a sub-60 round. It’s never happened here—the course record is 61, held by 6 players, most recently Chad Campbell in 2004. Well, here’s a stupid, baseless prediction, pulled out of thin air—I say someone shoots a 59 this week. You heard it hear first. And if I’m wrong, which I most likely will be, then I never said it.
On to my 10 players to watch for the Crowne Plaza Invitational. I’ve happy to say I’ve got two lefties on my list, but no, neither one’s named “Mickelson”:

Of course it hurts, as a lefty, to avoid Lefty himself this week. Skipping Mickelson could certainly burn me, but he just hasn't been playing that well--his putting has been mediocre this year, and he's never especially accurate off the tee, which could hurt him on a tight course like Colonial. We'll see.
