Saving Tiger
Right now I am glad that I decided to leave Tiger on the bench for the first round. Its not over yet, but Garcia is doing just as well and I really don't want to use him unless he is going to win. We'll see how it goes. Last year he tore up the first round and tanked the weekend at this event. Maybe it will be the opposite this year --- kinda crappy in the first round and tear up the weekend. We'll see I guess.

So, Tiger has now won his last 5 PGA Tour events dating back to Cog Hill (plus the non-PGA events Target World Challenge and Dubai Desert Classic).
He has won the event at Doral the last 3 years (Last Year CA Championship, 06 and 05 Ford Championship)
Looks like a can't miss for another victory
However, this is a no cut event, for it has a less than average size field.
Thus, you don't have to worry about your other A List player 'forcing' you on a Tiger start should that player miss the weekend.
And it is still early in the year (29% of the way through the Fantasy Season). By using Tiger in the CA Championship, some managers will be 3/10 in the starts column. Also, he is projected to play in a larger ratio of events from this point forward. -
Lets get this post back in play again. After watching Westwood here a little bit, lets say another scenario presents itself. Assume Westwood takes control over this tournament, say he has the type of lead Tiger had going into the final round of the Buick Invitational. Now lets say Tiger is alone in second, 3rd is like 2 or 3 shots behind Tiger. Now do you start him the final round to salvage what appears to be at least 10 bonus, but a longshot 20 bonus?

Im glad I dont have to worry about that, I just committed to him from the start. In the past Ive always hated having Tiger on my team on the bench. I would rather commit to him, and get his full potential for 4 rounds. Last year of the 10 times I used him, he won 7, but even in his 3 he didnt win...........he had over 50 points.
To answer your question though, I think if he was within 5 strokes of a guy in first place, and no reasonable threat behind him..........I would probably play him, but if he were down by more than 5 I would save him. -
It would present an interesting situation. If that were the exact case, I may leave him on the bench because I do have Westwood, so at least I would have the winner. Last year I missed out on 2 of Tiger's wins because I just didnt have enough starts for him. I need to have him for ALL of the times he wins. But it would make the decision a lot easier if I have the guy in first in that scenario.

You guys will have an interesting decision to make if say he is inside the top 10 going into Sunday and a few shots off the lead. Do you use him then?

Definitely not a decision I really want to make, but we will see. I would rather be in that situation than start him out of the gates and have him not win bonus pts and just play average.
-
Well I have him, just not in the lineup yet. No point in burning a start unless he is going to win. And lets just say, he's recent record at this course isn't too great.
-
Tiger is only 5 back. You are gonna regret saving him cause he is still gonna win this.10 pts from him today will be above average. He will go out and shoot 64-65 tomorrow.

Tiger has only played 15 events (that count in fantasy) each of the last two seasons. As for saving his starts, I'm using my ten while he's red hot. Later in the year when he struggles with his driver I'll be glad to have gotten wins and top tens out of his starts.

I thought about that also, but what if he (Tiger) doesn't finish in the top 3 this week and he's still hot at the end of the year?
I f**king hate Appleby. He bogey's the easiest holes on the course. Should have played Campbell. Well not making that mistake again.

very glad I pulled Pampling and stuck with Senden so far. Appleby is playing okay, my worst pick so far is Casey!

I don't know how accurate the PGA shot track is, but it said Appleby had a 2 foot putt for birdie. When I check back he pared the hole. Did he miss the 2 footer? I still can't get over the 3 putt on the par 5 he did.

I have Sergio also, but Im saving starts so I kept him on the bench ;o)

You have to be patient, even though it's hard to sit here and watch your those guys do well right now.

I did the same thing David....I have Vijay going though. Tiger did okay today. I think he has helped alot more people they you might think, except that they used a start so they better hope he gets them a bonus.

wow, even par on a tough course is kinda crappy? Who knew?

Haha, yeah well for Tiger it is crappy. I guarantee if you get to see his interview you will probably hear something similar out of him. Only 2 birdies out of him is quite surprising.
