Commissioner Corner Message Board
Hi there , I am in a fantasy hockey league and wanted some unbiased opinions on a trade that was put through in our league.
here is the basic scoring and settings in our NON keeper league:
standings are just straight up points, top 3 get paid
there are 11 teams in our league
rosters are c,c,rw,rw,lw,lw,d,d,d,d,g,g, b,b,b,b,b,b,ir,ir,ir+
player points are :goals 3p, assist, 2p, +/- (1/-1), ppg 2p, ppp 1p, shg 5p,
goalie points are: win 4p, save 0.2p, goal against -1p, shutout 4p
we get 180 games at each position.
here is the trade.
Going to team 1:Evgeni malkin
Going to team 2: wayne simmonds and Nikas Kronwall
trade facts: team 1 is currently in first
team 2 is currently last ( is 600 points behind)
The top 6 teams are still in competition
team 1 is the commissioner
team 1 and team 2 are friends
team 2 occasionally does not set his lineup
any opinions/ comments are appreciated for feedback. thanks
The key question here is because it is 2 for 1 is the team who traded away 2 guys allowed to pick up a free agent in place of the extra player lost or does the team that acquired Malkin now have to play short handed? If the guy who acquired Malkin is allowed to fill the open roster spot with a free agent at no cost then that makes this trade incredibly lopsided in the commissioner's favor.
I would question why this deal was happening since it doesnt appear rightm it involves the top team and its the LMs team. I would ask them to write explanations n why the trade benefits each team. In saying that though, team 2 improves in G, A, PPG, and PPP. In a non keeper that would be hard to argue. You could definitely get more for Malkin but its a non keeper.
Team 2 is getting 24 G and 54 A. Malkin by himself has 18 G and 40 A. Team 2 also gets more PP points plus more hits & blocks if you count those (it doesnt say that you do).
But, since it's not a keeper league, then this trade makes team 2 better. While it prolly really helps team 1, it makes team 2 better. As a non keeper league, I think you have to let it pass.
