Okay, so I'm playing in a Yahoo public H2H league. I'm playing for the championship, and I have taken liberties with the public rules. Basically, I have used 36 forwards/defensemen and six goaltenders during the period of Mar 30th - Apr 12th. I have regularly turned over 50% of my roster each night in the last week to amass as many games as possible.
Shocker of shockers, my opponent is now crying foul. Hell, they've even accused me of selling my soul to the devil. Really! Do I really care? No. But I always get offended when people label somebody as a cheater when they are playing within the predefined rules. Is what I did chintsy? Sure. Is it cheating? Nope.-

You haven't broken any rule...BUT..I would still argue that if you had to resort to those kind of tactics to win, then you're no champion.
I am a firm believer in the old adage of "the best managers are proven in the draft" and if you don't have the talent to compete head to head and win, then what's the point? Winning for the sake of winning? Or would you rather win proving that you're a smart manager who added a few surprise players, but kept the team you originally drafted.
Like I said originally, it's not cheating and congratulations on winning your pool. However you wanted opinions and this one is pretty hard to argue against because any counter argument will involve winning by any means necessary, which further strengthens my original argument of lack of managerial skill.- View Replies

Huh? So you draft, then wait 26 weeks to see where you stand, only changing out players that get hurt?
Managing by definition is using whatever resources (FA Market, Trades, Bench, Waiver Limits) you have to accomplish your goal (Winning).
As a first time F-Hockey manager, I've never participated (20 team league) in anything as mentally stimulating as 26 weeks of H2H Competition. Streaming players is part of the chess match that makes it fulfilling. -

Yes you need to draft well but I think the best managers live on the waiver wire. Whenever I win I find 4-5 really players on the wire.

not cheating, but not cool either. I did not do that in any of my H2H matches and 2 are for the championship. My opponents did not either. If you want to play the game fairly, you don't stream in the H2H matches. "Real" coaches don't get to, and that is the point of fantasy. We get much more leeway with that. Again, what you did is not cheating, but it isn't cool.

i think the rules do need to be changed, in order to make it equal. Like cap the max moves to either 50-100. can't cut list does need to be larger. But it's not cheating, but it's not cool either, but i do see that it must be done in order to win.

This isn't "Real" hockey. This is a game related to hockey and made to resemble the decisions a real manager makes. But if you played this game assuming the rules that apply to real hockey (should) apply to fantasy sports, then you don't really understand the game.
You should play the strategy that maximizes your probability of winning the game, given the parameters of the game. If the rules/parameters change, modify your strategy accordingly. But don't let someone tell you that because this isn't the way it's done in "real" hockey, that it somehow it's off limits.

Dude, technically you aren't cheating because what you are doing is within the rules. However, the rules need to be changed because what you did was an asshole move that represents a giant flaw in these pools. Two waiver limits should be customizable one during the regular season and one during the PLAYOFFS to keep dicks like you from stealing cheaP victories. I would put an lovely Asterisk right beside your name in the record book, what you did isn't managing, in the gaming world it is called 'nerding out'. Stay away from my pools.

How can anyone dispute your tactic? Maybe if they lost to someone who made more moves than them? If you needed to switch out your team every week in order to come out ahead, then why WOULDN't you do it? I can't believe these jokers who object to that! ...there's nothing preventing them from wheeling their entire team too! Crybabies!

I don't think it's cheating. Everyone has the same opportunity to drop and add players. If the league you are in allows it, and you don't like it, go play another game!

It's not cheating, but it's morally wrong to do.
During the regular season I had 5 max adds a week, then after the trade deadline I locked all trading and adds/drops to prevent that from happening (if an injury happened they let me know and I switched).- View Replies

It's the ever-loving grey area. You 'know' it's not right but you do it because it's within teh rules. The only thing you really sacrifice is +/- in hockey format, which is minimal (unless you're picking up crappy players, but then you'd be losing and cyscling at the same time..)
