Editing Roster spots(Bench) post -draft

Wondering if any of you Commissioner's have done this before? Thinking of dropping a bench spot (from 5-4) . Wondering what happens if I do this? Is each team given up until the league start date (oct 13) to decide, or does yahoo do it etc? Thanks for any help.
