I trade Joe Thornton and Marek Svatos and I get Daniel Alfreddson and Dustin Brown?

Is that a fair trade? Who gets the better end?

    Please hurry!

Again I will have the least popular response and I say that you should do the deal.

When you compare the numbers this is what you get. This season Joe Thorton's points per game average is 1.25 last year it was 1.39, so over the course of 82 games, if he maintains this pace, he'll get about 11.50 total points less than last season.

Alfredson on the other hand has a 1.48 point per game average, and that takes into account that he has already missed 2 games this year. Incidentally if he maintains that scoring pace for the balance of the year he will amass 15 points more than his best ever 103.

Alfredson seems to average about 77 games played per season so at 1.48 points per he ends up with exactly the same amount as Thorton if Joe plays the entire year. At that pace any games Alfredson plays beyond 77 is a bonus. The only big difference's at the end of the year will be Thortons advantage in penalty minutes and Alfredson's advantage in Plus/Minus

So it comes down to the other two guys in the equation. Svatos, is on pace for about 30 points, the same as last year. There is no reason to expect that a forward who averages ten minutes of play or less per game will put up numbers much beyond that. If you need penalty minutes, then he's not your guy. If you league tallies shots on goal, for a guy who shoots as often as Svatos you would expect him to tickle the twine a little bit more - or at the very least have a handful of assists - his stats indicate otherwise.

So in my mind the deciding factor is Dustin Brown. At only three years in the league it is hard to tell what a guy might do - but we do know that he is only 3 points shy of passing his first full year total of 28 points, and he has another 50 odd games to try and exceed last years total of 46. Which is a point every other game, something that is very doable for a guy for a guy who shares 20 minutes of ice time per night or more with a couple of plumbers named Cammalleri and Kopitar. Brown also gets about the same amount of penalties as Thorton.

So what we are looking at is two starters in you line-up and if the current pace is maintained at the very least a net gain of at least 15 and more likely 20 plus points over the remainder of the season.

I didn't even need to figure this all out before deciding this was the best thing for you to do. It's obvious just look at the players involved - two are essentially equal, two are not.
