How high should a goalie be drafted?

My drafts tomorrow and I'm just wondering. 12 team, h2h, point system pretty normal.

There are a few elite goalies...Lundquvist, Quick, Rinne, Rask, but how what round should you start drafting goalies?

      • Depends on your scoring system, but in most H2H leagues goalies are worth 1/3 of the points each week. Significant. Now consider that you will only have 2-3 players contributing to those categories, as opposed to 12-13 contributing to your other categories. Strong goaltending is crucial.

Depending on your draft position, I would take your first 'tender with your first or second pick, and no later than your third. If I don't get Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Ovechkin, or maybe Giroux with my first pick, I think the next best player available is Lundqvist.

It helps if you group goalies into "tiers" before you draft, based on how you value them. Try to get at least one goalie from your first "tier", and at least one goalie from your second "tier".

However, this has quite a bit of variability from league to league. In some leagues, goalies go early; in some leagues, goalies go late. You really just have to react to how the other managers are drafting.
