Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
Just did my draft and looking for advice/thoughts/comments, anything really about how I did. It's a 2nd year keeper league, we had 16 teams first year, only 12 this year some the extra players were thrown back into the draft. It's h2h with cats of G A +/- PIM PPP SHP Shots Hits, W GAA SV% SO. Players with a * denote keeper from last year (8 keepers, 1 goalie allowed)
C- H. Sedin*
LW- M. Richards*
RW- St. Louis*
F- E. Staal*
I know my D isn't all that flashy but I won the league last year with a weak D and went for guys I expect to be + players, who get slots of hits, decent shots and some points. Also loaded up on wingers to improve my goals and hits. Incase there is a season, any advice on what I should do or if not, what my keepers for next year should be? Thanks in advance
Hey Steve - pretty solid team there. I especially like your goaltending. Backes & Callahan are really solid picks; you'll end with a lot of cross-category value from them.
I'm not a big fan of the Vrbata pick as I feel he is headed downward next season.
Beware of trying to predict +/- of players. There are studies out there that show it can only be done with about 60% accuracy (that's not much better than a coin flip).

With Quick I'll always like my goaltending more than likely. I traded for Niemi last year among many others trades I made (Got H. Sedin, E. Staal and Pominville via trades as well for next to nothing) and he helped me win me league and playoffs. Not sure why yahoo has him ranked in the 160's right now. I personally have him rated better than a lot of the goalies ranked ahead of him.
I'm a big Callahan fan. I could see him improving on last years numbers and he helps me in hits which is something I struggled in last year. Many of the guys I drafted improve me in that area. Backes was a tough pick, it was either him or Bobby Ryan. I chose Backes obviously, we'll see how that turns out.
Vrbata was one of my later picks, 192 overall I believe so didn't waste much on him. gonna try to trade him, see if I can get anything as I'm fairly deep at RW now.

Thanks for the reply and reassurance Shaun. Much appreciated since a lot of people don't seem to be posting/replying to anything. Nash was available because our league lost 4 teams, so their players went back into the draft. I had the 3rd overall pick (via trade) and drafted Nash and then Backes with my own 1st rounder.
On another note, Varlamov was just dropped for some reason, I have first waiver priority. Thinking about dropping Glachenyuk for him. Think it's a good idea? I used 2 goalies primarily last year, the same 2 I actually have now, but I think this could be a good insurance policy if one of mine gets hurt or sucks lol. Agree?
