Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I am in a 16 team keeper league that only allows to keep 1 goalie...I currently am keeping Corey Crawford but have an opportunity to trade a 3rd round pick in next year's draft to another manager for jonas hiller or ondrej pavelec.
I have the 2nd overall pick in the upcoming draft as well as another later 1st rounder, so my thinking is that I will have access to another good goalie with one of my 1st rounders, but would like some opinions as to whether Hiller or Pavelec are that much more valuable than Crawford???
I personally had both Hiller and Pavy this year on my team. Hiller had a slow start as did the Ducks, but towards the end of the season he was back to his old self and was on fire, he was after all voted in the all star game last year. In my opinion I would defiantly prefer to have hiller who will bounce back this year over the other two.
But my question to you is, if he has to drop either hiller or luongo, why not keep crawford, than draft hiller or even maybe a better goalie with one of your 1st round picks?
I would also try and do a straight up trade for Hiller, he will have a good season next year. Crawford is an average 1st goalie who chicago will be looking to upgrade. if your able to move him or trade for another especially with 2 1st rounds... your in control.

Like I said earlier, there are 16 teams and each keeps one goalie. That means the top 16 goalies in the league are gone and the other 14 or so other legitimate starters will be taken in the 20 picks of our draft.
I have 2nd and 18th pick overall so I should be able to pick up at least one more "good" goalie, but I want to have the best goalie that is available to me as my keeper. Right now that is Crawford, but like I said, I can have Hiller or Pavelec for relatively cheap so my question remains...
is Hiller or Pavelec a better keeper than Crawford?
The straight up trade doesn't work because the guy that owns Hiller also owns (and will be keeping) Luongo, so all of his other goalies will be dropped into the draft pool and for that reason, owning Crawford does him no good.
I need to decide if it is worth giving up a middle round pick to upgrade Crawford to Hiller.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
personal i would try to see if they would try a straight up trade, crawford for hiller nd see if they accept it. there is no way anahiem has the same year next year as they did this year, there to good. if they do then see how your draft goes and maybe pick up your second goalie in the 2nd or 3rd round depending on how fast they are going off the board.

To answer your suggestion, he has Luongo as well as his keeper, and will be dropping either of the others due to the one goalie keeper rule, so he doesn't want Crawford.
The goalies are gone by the second round...because you can only keep one and there are 16 teams, if you want a decent 2nd goalie, you pick him early. Alot of guys get stuck with their keeper and 2 backups.
I felt that goaltending was my weakness this yerar and I don't wan that to be the case again this year.
If I can keep the best possible goalie and draft a 2nd strong goalie, I have strong enough forwards that I have a shot.
It boils down to who is better, Crawford or Hiller/Pavelec keeping ages in mind because it is a keeper league.
