thanks guys. this has been a tough one to mull over as i'm thinkinhg i need another goalie. I have thomas, rask, nittymaki, and turco. -30 in goalie games in a 12 man roto league.
I feel like you're losing out on this trade. If you want Kovalchuk, i believe you can give up a lot less to get him.
In my opinion Ward is a far better goalie than nittymaki, but Nittymaki is on a better team in my opinion.
Backstrom + Semin are an amazing combo. Because I believe Washington will heat up. When they do Backstrom + Semin will get you points regularly and also a strong +/-. Savard + Marleau are not worth Backstrom and Semin.
Letang is far better than Myers though. Buffalo I believe is done with season with Derek Roy out for the season.
I wouldn't do the trade if I were you.
I'd break this down as simply as I could. Ward is definitely an upgrade over Nitty, so you win there. Savard is NOT an upgrade over Backstrom, so that's a loss. I have Marleau myself and he's been on and off, but mostly off this season. I'd still take Semin over him, so that's another loss.
The Devils are awful, but Gagne's not doing much himself, so you have to figure that Kovy will end up producing more than him despite the teams they're on. Kovy produced with little or no help in Atlanta, and with half a season to go there's a chance he could be a big pickup. I'd call that a win. Myers started off horrible, but has started to play better recently. Still, there's not much going on offensively in Buffalo so Letang will definitely continue to get more points and end up with much more than Myers.
Long story short:
Backstrom > Savard = L
Semin > Marleau = L
Kovy > Gagne = W
Letang > Myers = W
Ward > Nitty = W
Overall you win. The gap between Backstrom and Savard is a big one, but so is the gap between Ward and Nitty and between Letang and Myers. I could go either way on this. There's a rule of thumb people use to never give up the best player in the trade, which is Backstrom, but this move really helps your goaltending and Marleau and Kovalchuk come alive you'll come out of this smelling like roses.
