Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I finished mid table last year and am looking to draft 7th or 8th out of 14 teams this coming year. It's a semi keeper league and many of the elite players have been kept (we each keep 6).
Here is my team:
Of the list of notable FA's who should I be taking with my 7th or 8th pick:

If your picking 7th or 8th and it's a keeper league, Tavares should be long gone as most GM's are picking the young guys for the future. Like you've seen mentioned, your Goalie is your Achilles' heel. Look to snag a goalie first, go young, try for Howard if you can or Mason. If other guys picking before you are in your situation, they'll be gone. Then aim for Backstrom or Rinne. You should be able to get Rinne and he's gotten better and better each year in Nashville and because he's in Nashville he will probably still be available. Anderson would be my last choice, but still a quality option for sure on a breaking out young team.
When it comes to forwards, If you luck out with Horton or Eriksson being left, snag one of them. Both guys can pad all the stats pretty well and should help you in the long run. Horton has a small edge in my book, being on a new team this year with a young playmaker like David Krejci feeding him the puck. Watch out!!
Take Anderson cause you need a good goalie, also take someone that gets penalties assuming that your league would have that stat in your league. I think you're fine everywhere else. If you don't win this year man there's a huge problem.

I ran out of moves at the end of the season, and was carrying Theodore, Thomas and Nitty.
Theodore is finished, I figured Nitty was going to ride the pine half the time and that Thomas would be traded to a team that was in need of a goalie.
Now it would have made sense to keep Nitty, being in San Jose he'll have plenty of wins.

Yes, Thomas is terrible..... I was trying to pad my scoring thinking I could just pick up a young starter later on in the draft. Look at how many goalies emerged as starters as the season played out last year: Niemi, Howard, Anderson, Nitty, Halak etc. I was just figuring I'd wait it out and pick up a guy like Ellis late, he could easily rejuv his career in Tampa....
i would pick B Richards with 91 point last season he is on the top of his game and with some kids like james neil , jamie benn , loui eriksson, fabian brunnstrom they will only step up richards game again this year ,, i would drop thomas tho

I have to disagree. B. Richards is 70 point guy with low PIM if your league counts that. I know he had a great season but he's not going to put up back to back 90 point seasons.
I agree with dropping Thomas though!
i would pick B Richards with 91 ponits last year he is on the top of his game and the stars got alot of younger guys that will step up his game even more this year like james neil , jamie benn , loui eriksson, fabian brunnstrom ,, good lucky with whoever u pick
