for all you trash talking Canadians

I don't think Luongo is going to fair much better, Brodeur lost the game for you guys and America is too aggressive for Canada's overskilled team. It seemed like the Canadian players didn't know their roles, they're too top heavy.

Unlike America where each player is basically a premium role player and knows what to do, there is a good balance of talent on this team they seem more like a team than Canada does.

However Canada does have a huge amount of pressure on them even more now that they lost to USA which everyone thinks Canada was entitled to win and go all the way.

So we'll see, I wouldn't be surprised to see USA lose a game but a USA Canada gold medal game would be great to see.

    • Excellent point, Mike. Canada's team is made up of primarily 1st line superstars who aren't used to the tasks that role players take on, and they're getting outworked in those areas. The US was very smart in choosing guys like Drury, Callahan, Brown, Kesler, Backes, etc. over Okposo, JVR and other forwards who may be more offensively gifted but lack the defensive skills. The American forwards are simply far more adept at playing defense and shutting the other team down than the Canadian forwards and it's paying off.

    • Its hard to say if Luongo will do better...it depends on the bounces. This is the game of hockey. The puck is small and the goal is big. Alot of the goals last night were uncharacteristic of the goaltenders. 2 US goals were last second deflections, I dont see how you can really blame Brodeur. Im not sure why he batted the one back to the middle of their own zone though. Crosbys goal, was really good, but Miller thought he had it the whole way, and it just snuck in five hole.
If my team had to go with Luongo as their #2, I would be pretty happy with my goalie situation. I think Canada should shake their lines up a little. They have the highest number of popular NHL players, and that doesnt always work (look at my Washington Redskins). I would expect Babcock to make any changes that are necessary, and the goalie situation will take care of itself. But to be honest, there isnt much to fix. They have to score more than the other teams from now on.
