  • Kopitar for James Neal

    Jeff M by Jeff M . Dec 31, 2009 10:58 AM . Permalink

I know some people might say why am i even asking this question. I guess i'm not a believer in Kopitar. Neal's been quite well on the wing so far, he's fallen into a bit of a slump the last few weeks, but i think he's going to turn it back on and finish strong. Kopitar has pretty much sucked the bag since Smyth got injured and he is showing no signs of improvement AT ALL.

Would I be crazy to turn this down?

Kopitar has had 2 good 70+ point seasons and is on pace for more than that. Neal is a good player but is only in his second season is will probably max out at 70, so I stick with Kopitar.

Keep Kopitar. This would be a bad time to sell him when he's in a slump. Unless you absolutely need a Wing versus a Center.

Kopi's the #1 main attraction in LA, and he'll need to pick it up for them to be successful in the 2nd half. If they do improve, he'll be right there getting points again. I don't think 80 points is out of the quesiton.

The difference is that Dallas can be successful without Neal. He's still very young (moreso than Kopitar) and is going to be streaky. He'll improve on last years numbers, but I think Kopitar will be better.

Neal has been bumped onto the second line as Lehtinen has taken the RW spot and Eriksson moved to LW. And just give Kopitar time. The fact that he was on pace for 130 points at one point gives you an idea of his potential. And yeah, he's been increasing his point totals each season. Stick with him.

The only reason Neal was demoted was because he had the flu (or symptoms of the flu) last week. In the Stars team report they indicate he may have missed a practice because of illness. He'll be back with Richards and Ericksson very soon, they had great chemistry together.

But I agree with everyone else. The other party is trying to buy low on Kopitar.
