any we have a real draft where he lasted til the 3rd. And again, if you pick him 5th and he's anything less than a 95 point player you are making an awful pick. Why take a risk guy when there are more sure things available? Especially when, as proven here, there's a decent chance he's there for your second round pick.

Drafting is all about getting value and managing risk. He's an awful pick in the early-mid first even if he does reach expectations.

Not to mention this is an entirely different argument from the one we were having, which was that you should pick the best player available, period. We were were arguing about the legitimacy of skipping the best player available in hopes that they'd return to you. Now you're arguing that he's not the best player available.

By the way, every player has the potential to fall short of their established level. There's a chance that Ovechkin "only" scores 45 goals. Does that mean it's stupid to draft him first and expect 55? Of course not. Not everybody is going to "expect" Heatley to fall short they same way you do.

Heatley isn't going to last to the 2nd round after the trade for sure. But it was still a mock draft and some picks are ridic. I mean to get Getzlaf with the 11th pick and Datsyuk with 13th?! Not in real drafts.

you can't just take one mock from the day he was drafted and call him a unanimous first round pick though. That's just plane stupid and that's all you're using as a basis.

And I was initially responding to the fact that you said he was a bad first round pick because you can get him later than that, show me a draft, real or mock where you get him after the first round. You can say he's overrated now, but the fact is he's on everyone's mind and isn't going to make it past round one.

So do fifty mock drafts and show me the ones where he doesn't go first round.

So because it's a mock draft people purposely choose players out of position? And what does the fact that it was just after the trade have to do with anything? Heatley has a good of a chance to be in the top five in scoring as anyone does, plus he'll have plenty of shots, a good plus/minus and a good amount of PIMS, making him a great fantasy player and worthy of a first round pick.

he won't get 100 points meaning, he isn't worth the risk of taking that early in the first.

and one mock draft which occurred right after the trade was announced doesn't mean he you have to take him in the first to get him.
