Richards scored 27 seconds into the game, before most of the crowd of 15,006 had settled in. Richards gave Dallas a 1-0 lead as he tried a quick wraparound that Steve Mason stopped, then jammed in the rebound. He then took a hard check midway through the second period and skated to the bench holding his right wrist. Richards didn't return.
