Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
I'm currently in a 8 team Head to Head league and the categories are Goals, Assists, P, +/-, Penalty Minutes, Shots on Goal, Shooting %, Shorthanded Goals, PPP, PPG,
and the goalie categories are W, L, Save %, GAA, and Shutouts. I am currently in 1st place ahead of the rest of the teams by a fairly large amount, however I recently made a trade giving up Niklas Backstrom (the goalie), Jeff Carter, and Cam Barker. In return I got Marian Hossa, Rob Blake, and Alex Auld, I just wanted to know what you think about this trade and also this is how my team currently looks right now:
I would greatly appreciate it if you could make any suggestions to help improve my team. I was also thinking about either trading Dan Ellis or maybe even dropping him to pick up a goalie like Craig Anderson as his starting spot is in jeopardy. Anyways I would just like to know your opinion on my trade, my team and what I should do with Ellis. Thanks.
Yeah your team is very, very good. I agree with the post about your LW being your weakest spot. This of course is by comparison to you RW which starts you out with Iginla and Hossa.
I would say try to package Stasny, Koivu, or Toews with Ellis to try and wiggle out a better goaltender or use your abundance of top centers for top-end LW. I say only 1 because I consider Marleau for LW use.
And of course you D will be set once Green comes back.
Though you could dump Sykora for a FA LW if there is any such as Versteeg from Chicago who is LW/RW.
Pretty strong team for an 8 person league. LW is definitely your week spot as far as skaters go. Not that it's weak, just not as strong. Scan the waiver wire for someone like Martin Lucic, Kris Versteeg (LW/RW), Nik Hagman or Pavol Demitra (C/LW)... all of them are still available in alot of leagues, and probably shouldn't be.
As for goalies, I would probably agree with dropping Ellis for Anderson... but I'd also try and package Auld with one of your better skaters, for a better goaltender (and maybe a better LW as part of that deal) and use Anderson when he's hot, and playing, as I have a feeling the battle for the outright starting position in Florida is long from decided.
Team looks good, as it should in an 8 team league. You've got a couple guys who are under performing, so look for them to break out soon and really help. As for goalies, I'm not really convinced that Anderson has really solidified the number one spot either. Nashville always seem to have goalie battles. Oddly enough, who did Vokoun play for before becoming a Panther? Nashville. I don't think he's out of the picture yet. He is an awful 5-10, but last year he was an "All-Star" goalie and posted some pretty good numbers, around .920 and 2.50. Anderson if playing awesome hockey, but you might find yourself back in the same situation you're in right now. If you're really worried about goalies, I'd drop Sykora, I think he's the least productive of the selection of RW's you have. That's my opinion on the situation

you asked for experts and instead you got some guy telling you to drop pominville for anderson hahaha
not sure i like your trade, you gave away one of the top goalies and one of the best young goal scorers, obviously hossa is great but defense isnt worth as much in H2H so getting rob blake doesn't really help make that trade too good, and now you're left with only one solid tender
I don't know how many RW's you can play at once but since you got Hossa you can drop Pominville for Anderson and get some good stats while he is hot. Also, watch the other goalie in Nashville - Rinne or something...he has been playing pretty good.
With regard to the trade, I guess it's ok only because your league has twice as many categories for skaters comared to goalies, in a normal league it would have been a bad trade to give up Backstrom.
