Draft and Trade Talk Message Board
i offered briere and d. ellis for semin. the other owner (desperate for a goalie) accepted.
briere is supposed to be back on tuesday, ellis (aside from last night's disaster) seems to be getting back in the groove.
no word yet on semin's return.
was it a smart trade to gamble on semin's return, or a stupid mistake to give up 2 solid starters?
In terms of injuries..Briere gets the upper hand because he will be back this tuesday as for Semin...we dont know about his back injury..
I would say this is a risky trade you made...and i confirm this is a stupid move
yup, i figure i can't really lose.
my other C are getz/crosby/zett/marleau so losing briere means nothing.
my G are backstrom/smith/auld. after ellis crapped his pants last night i wanted to waive him.
and briere stalling to come back has also exhausted my patience.
so good riddance! hopefully semin will be back in a week and i'll be laughing.
Depends on when Semin comes back. If he comes back soon, you should win it. If he is out for more than two months, I would said you lose. I would said it is a toss-up, it just depends on when Semin reutrns.
I think you did the right thing if you want my opinion. I could use your help now. Thanks in advance. Team A gets Robert Lang and Ilya Kovalchuk. Team B gets Patrik Elias and Derek Roy. Is this a fair trade or is it lopsided. PLEASE ANSWER FAIR OR LOPSIDED somewhere in your answer. Thanks!
I'd give you the advantage. Briere is a top line C, but he's just as prone to injury if not worse compared to Semin. Ellis was great in the playoffs last season, but lost some consistency this year. Giving them both up frees a roster spot so that's always nice. Overall, it depends on how lengthy semin is out for. Either way, when he comes back, Washington will explode.

right. and part of the reason i made the deal was to free up some space. i've already got 4 players eligible to play C and i had 4 goalies. now i've got both of those problems fixed.
i'm thinking now about packaging zetterberg or marleau with one of my 2nd goalies (smith or auld) for a bona fide number 1 goalie like nabby or lundquist
I think you got the better deal by far, Semin is awesome and if he plays with Ovie and Backstrom when he comes back he could be one of the hottest players in the league, like he was before he got injured. Briere cant play D to well so no loss there
Could go either way regarding Semin's health..
It's a pretty good trade for you. Semin could be great if healthy, but no use to you if injured... It was good to get rid of Briere and Ellis tthough
