    Roto Goalie stratgegy?

Right now in one of my leagues I have Backstrom and ward, and a quite comfortable lead in GAA and SV%. Im also leading in wins and SO's.

That being said I am mulling a strategy of BENCHING my two goalies more than playing them. Playing only in games that are "highly probable" win scenarios.

Example - Bench Ward vs the Pens, play him vs say Thrashers or Preds etc.

What do you guys think? Risky? It would be done to protect my lead in GAA and SV%.

    • Now let me ask you this.

What if he shutouts the Pens and gets rocked by the Trashers and Peds - you basically screw yourself, no?

I understand you want to conserve your leads in these categoires, but I'm sure there will come a time when you won't be in the lead and trying to figure out how to get back. what will you do than - add/drop for every goalie that has a great matchup?

I say you just play the goalies - they are both great and put up quality numbers last year and I'm sure you can count on them for the remainder of the year. Plus, weren't not even 10 games in and you're worried about winning categories?

    • This was a common strategy for me in previous leagues...I wouldn't play a goaltender unless I was guaranteed a high probability for success in each of the goaltending categories, then would bench them for the rest of the week to guarantee a win in all of the categories.

That being said, I've been the commish for each of the years I've played fantasy...and realized this obvious advantage/flaw (whatever you want to call it) of exploiting the strategy you're talking about...and soon after, set the rule that each week, every manager must play their goaltenders at least 3 times. This quickly put to an end the strategy of playing goalies only when profitable.

Anyways, you should def. do that if you don't have a set limit of how many times a goaltender must be played...good luck!
