Has everyone forgotten Timothy McVeigh? Born in New York who claimed 168 lives, including 19 children under the age of 6? Injured close to 700 people? The same man who was a Sergeant in the United States Army? Was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star? He was a practitioner of Christian Identity. Not sure what the heck that is, but they believe they have discovered a cosmic justification for modern-day racism.
I don't believe the IRS banned military personell from entering their facilities after that horrible incident.
You can't hold a religion responsible for what happened on 9/11.
McVeigh was an extremist, as were (are) the group that are responsible for 9/11. They were Muslim extremist's, not true Muslim's.
I suppose I could start whining about all you British imports that put my great grandparents and their parents on reservations and were told to stay put; but I wouldn't do that, cuz it wasn't your doing. It was your extremist family from many years ago.
Does anyone know what the trail of tears is? I have late family members that survived that walk to Oklahoma. The approximation is that around 4000 Cherokee died along the way.
Think about it.

Don't blame the Muslims. It was a bunch of radicals with backing from the CIA. Get real, and search the facts.
Dawg, very good take. I do not know what the Trail of Tears is, but it sounds horrible.
I appreciate what Razor & charmcity are saying, and I must say I agree somewhat. There is symbolism and emotions at play here.
The Mosque is on private land, 2 blocks away from ground zero. What I would like to know is where they are getting the money to build this Mosque.
Bottom line for me is that we CAN NOT judge & stifle another person's belief's. Freedom is the name of this game.
dawg....i agree w/ the majority of what you have stated to a certain degree
i still think that the mosque could go somewhere else.the whole thing reeks of stirring $hit.i believe that is the agenda of the person thats backing it.if i remember correctly...the guy believes that the u.s should live under shar'iah law(extreme islam beliefs).
do me a favor and read a little bit about it and then ask yourself if you would want any of the females in your family subjected to shar'iah law
like i said dawg...i agree w/ most of what you said...jus not the part about the mosque going there.there are lots of other places it could go and somebody wants it there for all the wrong reasons....jmho
Sometimes we have the legal right to do things, but that doesn't mean its the right thing to do. Legally it is a no brainer they own the land and have the RIGHT to build on the property. Just like someone else has the RIGHT to open a gay bar next door.
If they were truly religious they would think of the implications of their actions. They have no thought of others, which all religions teach. Why is it there they have to build? why does our president think they have any right to build on that place. it will get built because as long as the Muslim is in office than nothing will be run right. I know many will say he is a christian, why is it he changed his name to a Muslim name than. If he gave up his Muslim faith should he have not given up the name he took and go back to his birth name.

This isn't an Obama issue. The plan was endorsed by they New York City Commission and praised by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Obama came along later and is just a fly in the ointment.
I was a little rough around the edges last night. I will say that if I had family members that perished in that incident, I'd likely not want to here anything about a friggin Mosque going up at the current proposed location.
There are many things I do or don't agree with, this one I will say that I personally have problems with. The issue is more complex than my having an opinion on whether they "should" build a Mosque, which I don't; but one of do they have the right, and yes they do.
