    Damn, Do I Start Newman?

    D - your right the Gray Catbird is a bird, but the meaning of the phrase is obscure. Red Barber the old announcer of the Yankees is the one that I heard use the phrase, to mean an envious position. Not sure what that has to do with the real bird, but Red was from Mississippi and so he may have had an insight or been a phrase he was familiar with from there.
