  • Distinguishing between closers and all other relief pitchers

Yahoo! Label closing pitchers as closers so we commissioners can limit the amount of closers per team. If a relief pitcher gets more than 5 saves in a season, he becomes closer eligible.

Why would you want to limit closers on a team? Seems that interferes with one strategy of playing forcing everyone to march to your tune. Wouldn't want to be in your league and I don't even use the stock up on closers strategy.

Also you gonna forcibly take away some person's set-up guy after they move up to become a closer? So they get "rewarded' for their research/patience by being punished by you? Again, glad I'm not in your league.

Yeah, nothing like trying to bring a little socialism to fantasy baseball. Upset because another team picks up closers off FA before you, so just limit it. Why not make a rule that every team only has 2 closers? or perhaps limit the amount of RBI's a team can accrue over the year. Silly

Its a family league and we are trying to make it a touch more like real baseball. Hopefully get the kids more interested in baseball. I don't want to teach them the game-isms/strategies of fantasy baseball just yet. (Which is also just as fun). They'll learn that on their own. I was looking at as an on/off option for managers. Everyones acting like I want to change the rules across the board.

Put a higher weekly minimum innings pitched requirement. 35 or so. Then they have to pitch some starters and not just one SP and a bunch of closers to keep their ERA and WHIP low. And/or put in a quality starts category or a holds cat.

We have a 45 minimum innings pitched using 4-SP, 2-RP, and 2-P roster spots. Streaming to reach the 45 innings is very minimal due to our 4 weekly moves limit and 75 season moves limit. We also use relief appearances (RAPP) to help increase the value of the RP positions (HOLDS are also a category we use). For closer stats we use Net Saves not just Saves. Typically, everyone hits 50+ innings each week. We've never had a team not hit the minimum 45 innings in the 3 year history of the league.

You should put a limit on home runs as well. Once a player hits 20 he becomes "slugger" eligible and you can only carry a maximum of those.

Starting 4 or more true closers in a yahoo standard 10 team league leaves slim to no pickens, and all year you will have have scam the waiver wire for closers. All for one stat I prefer not to use the closer strategy.
