    Advice about closers

Closers are paid big bucks to protect leads. They have no job security when they fail to do this. They are the equivalent of placekickers in pro football. Ours is a 10 team league using players from both major leagues. Currently, the following RPs who already have 4 or more saves this year are available free agents in our league: Fernando Rodney, Jim Johnson, Grant Balfour, Frank Francisco, Sean Marshall, Matt Capps, Jonathan Broxton, Santiago Casilla, Alfredo Aceves, and Hector Santiago. In addition, potential future closers such as Addison Reed, Kenley Jansen, and Aroldis Chapman are also available. Closers basically have a single value in fantasy leagues - saves. They don't pitch enough innings to have a measurable effect on your strikeouts, ERA, or WHIP numbers, and you really don't want a closer that gets many wins, because those usually come about as the result of blown saves. Saves are cheap and available in our league format.
