Commissioner Corner Message Board
If your league has holds as a category it turns out that Set up men are actually a better value than top tier closers. Inniings are the same and oddly WHIPs and ERA are actually a little better in comparing the top 5 of both types of RPs.
The nice thing about them is that they are typical ranked in the 300s whereas the closed of any merit are under 150 in rank.
That means you can delay stocking your 'pen until later rounds and use the open pick for better bats or better SPs. Am I wrong?
I agree. Do your homework and you can get great set-up guys. They tend to pitch better, I think, because they have a little less pressure on them in the 7th and 8th innings vs closers. But if you're hoping to wait until late and you end up punting saves, I think that's a bad way to attack a draft. I never believe your team can be better if you're down 1-0 to start every week.

I would argue that you are actually 1-1 to statr the week. you own holds and the other guy owns save....But you have modest plusses on ERA and WHIP. And plus-plus in other categories because you got more value on your early picks. The point ultimately is that it costs a hole lot more to compete in the Save category then it does the Hold Category.
