Commissioner Corner Message Board
One of the leagues I run is going to add keepers this year. From others I was interested in some basic info like.
How many keepers does your league have?
Are they tied to a position?
Does your league limit the number of years you keep a player?
Thanks for any advice
We keep 6 keepers-they are not tied to any position-each team must have 6 keepers on their rooster prior to the live draft. Ig they elect not to keep 6 keepers from their team-we have mini free agent draft prior to the live draft
I'm in a 14 team mixed league with traditional snake draft. We have gone through quite a few iterations of keeper rules, because the rules we started with resulted in a few great teams and many lesser teams. The bad teams had no chance to break out of the basement. We've tweaked things to try to eliminate that.
Our current rules are thus:
-6 keepers max, any combination of positions
-you can keep players for as many years as you want
-players kept for more than one year are slotted into the first rounds of the draft
-players kept for the first time are slotted in the round they were drafted in, or in the last rounds for waiver pickups
-players picked up in trades are treated as they would have been on the team you acquired them from
-If you keep less than 6 players you enter the draft sooner
This will be our first draft under these rules, so I'm interested to see how it works
I would keep the number of keepers small to begin with.
you will probably have some turnover in the league until things settle down, with some one and done's coming and going. those people often screw up and allow one team to accumulate to many good keepers, which makes it hard to recruit and keep other good managers to the league.
Start at 2-3, and increase to 3-4, then 5-6, etc.
I'm in a 20-team keeper league. Each team is allowed 9 keeps w/ any combination of hitters or pitchers. This can prove to be very just and fair considering depth and not allowing a single team to hoarde 10+ players of say top 50 overall quality. For instance, I've got Kemp, J. Bautista, Cano, Longoria as some of my better hitters but fully intend on keeping Cain and Kimbrel as my best pitchers.
We do a 10 man keeper league
2 at 1 yr contracts
2 at 2 yr contracts
and so on to 5 yr contracts
once they run out they become free agents so u keep it fair.
Also if you trade a 2 yr keeper to another guy then he gets to keep him plus his other 2 keepers until they expire. so he will actually have 11 keepers but one less draft pick at the end of the next years draft.
